changed my coolant temp sensor, now leaking coolant!

Picked up one from NAPA was oe green type sensor. I reused the plastic clip. Ever since, I been losing coolant there. Did I miss a seal or something? The replacement didnt come with one. Did I miss a step? I basically just took the one out and instantly put the new one in. Is there any kind of sealer I should put on it? I thought I was doing a good thing by replacing the faulty sensor...

Should have gotten new o-ring, new clip, and new sensor. The clip can break when removing it, lucky for you it didn't.

well the one i pulled out didnt have an o-ring so it must have stuck in place. I did it so fast to not lose a ton of coolant. guess Im gonna pull it out let the coolant drain and get a new seal...

change it when the car is dead cold. crack the cap to relieve any pressure, close it again and then change it. shouldn't lose much coolant at all

^^^ Exactly. Cool car down. Stick a paper towel around the sensor and remove it. I only had a tiny bit of spill. You should be able to take all the time you want.

A place between here and there

PN should be N90316802 for the o-ring.

Lol, remove the coolant cap first to relieve pressure in the system!!! I did that wrong ONE time. It's not fun taking that sensor off and relieving the system's pressure there.

    1) Remove coolant cap on expansion tank, allow air to come out. Re-tighten.
    2) Get a rag and put it under the sensor, pry clip off, pull sensor out
    3) Enjoy an easier job

Didn't see this, but exactly.. Usually have to get a long flathead and pry the O ring out also.

don't get so mad at napa and slow down, i'll say it a third time to get it across.

    1. it is on you to know what parts you need, the sensor doesn't come with an o-ring on it as stated... just go on an audi parts site and get the part numbers.
    2. open your overflow tank, lol, you should only 'leak' a dixie cup of coolant at worst.
