What are you trying to accomplish? Is it strictly for aesthetic value? I would think it would diminish the brightness and range of your lights.

Im just a fan of the Le Mans style cars and have always liked that look yellow is technically better output anyway, granted if the bulbs were that colour too.

i bought some clear for the headlights and yellow Laminx for the fog lights but haven't put them on yet, my friend who is a tint guy says you have to be careful and make sure you wipe them down when u drive so they dont get dirty and burn the film but best scenario you'll have to replace them every 6-8 months depending on how careful and diligent about cleaning them.

Yellow tint on the fogs would look fine. On the headlight....not so much.

i had smoked ones on my R6. never had ANY type of melting problems. My buddy has a B6 with yellow headlight and fog lights, he hasn't had nay issues whatsoever. he doesn't take special care of them either, just washes them like normal when he washes his car. he's had them for over a year. I also just put yellow LaminX covers on my fog lights (i have 35w HID 3500k bulbs) in an attempt make them, 'more yellow'. havnt had a problem, but then again, i just did it yesterday. ill try to go take some pics now...

Lamin-x is good stuff. Bought it for my B7 and never put it on. Yellow is best for fog conditions.

Tell that to the entire country of France:

"So, why do yellow fog lamps seem to work better? It's because of the way the human eye interacts with different colors of light. Blue and violet are very difficult for the human optical system to process correctly. They are the shortest visible wavelengths and tend to focus in front of our eyes' retinae, rather than upon it. To demonstrate this to yourself, find a dark blue store front sign or something else that's a dark, pure blue against a dark background in the absence of white light—from any appreciable distance, it's almost impossible for your eyes to see the blue lighted object as a sharply defined form;the edges blur significantly. Deep blue runway lights exhibit the same effect; check it out the next time you land at night."

Was this on an a4? It does make a difference. This happened on my old car. I have had leads on my fogs for over a year with no issues and I run fogs on ALL THE TIME.

Here's some pics of yellow Lamin-X on our RS4 and R8- kind of gives you an idea of what the yellow would look like.

I recently revisited the yellow light myth thing, and here is what I took away:

White is the best for illumination overall- it is the brightest.

Yellow is best for CONTRAST... which basically tricks your eyes into thinking things are more illuminated, but the tradeoff is that it does not illuminate as FAR as white.

Wear some yellow glasses in various conditions some times, it is the best way to see what I'm talking about. With the yellow, you *feel* like you can see everything better... but you begin to lack clarity at distance.

Yellow headlights would be softer on the eyes of other drivers as well, which might be beneficial in a city environment but not elsewhere.

Not really- general answer is that there is no conclusive proof that yellow works any better than white for illumination in fog.. and that all it does is increase contrast, but the tradeoff is a lesser range.

The real reason fog lights work is because they are low; fog tends to hang 12-18" off the ground- thats why fog lights are lower. Fog lights also have a flat beam, meaning the light should not come up into said fog.
So what you end up with is the road illuminated underneath the fog, improving visibility.

Since your headlights are designed to illuminate a wide path, and a great distance, for best safety and illumination, they're white. White provides the best range.

White fog lights will actually illuminate things farther away, but are quite bright on other drivers. I think the (proper) logic of where yellow fogs came from is that the yellow offers more contrasted lighting in a shorter range, for conditions where speed is reduced, thus not requiring the full range of regular lights, all while not blinding oncoming drivers. There is some other baloney about yellow light having a wavelength that penetrated water molecules.. but its BS on a scientific note.

And for the last variable, there is substantial deviation in the mechanical structure of everyones eyes, so your results may vary.

As for the person who posted the race cars... what color lights are on that R18?

As for merits of yellow vs white, I'm not gonna repeat what StratJohn has explained quite clearly already.
