    Help: RNS-E PIN retrieval

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I bought a RNS-E unit off a dude and he stated he had the PIN but ended up not. I called 3 dealers in my region and all stated its impossible to look up the PIN on a RNS-E unit ()

I am trying to track down the VIN off the original car but not sure what to do at this point...I saw that PROXUS used to be known to be able to assist in PIN retrievals but his inbox is full so I can't get a hold of him. Is anybody else able to do this kind of look-up/retrieval?

Any suggestions who can help me?

I doubt OP wants to send the unit to UK. I would suggest using Aisin unlock cd, but first you have to convert rns-e to EU firmware. Is your rns-e US or converted EU?

I go the PIN for my Symphony 2+ from Audi of America. I believe they can sometimes get touchy about making sure its not a stolen unit, but they were very helpful.

if you original owner or initially the unit was in the car then you can get the code, but if installed it afterward then they will not provide it

    another option
find out which company build this unit, Panasonic , Sony, etc, there is a sticker manufacture by .... call the HQ and ask them if they have local company that repairs those units, if they do, go to them , and for a fee then can reset the PIN and disable it completely
I was in similar situation bought use Concert II radio and the code was wrong for $50 they reset the unit, and disable completely ..

You don't need to track down the original VIN, all they need to look up the PIN is the serial number on the unit itself, and ANY VIN off a B6. I've gotten a PIN from using a random B6 VIN off a craigslist add.

I would watch out buying stuff like this.. This could be a stolen unit.

On Ebay if you search RNS-E you can find a lot of unlock service ranging from $17-25 to provide PIN.

Thanks for the input guys. I understand what you mean msharifi but honestyly how many times will you find someone down the street selling you a Nav where you can verify its theirs and not stolen? He provided me with the VIN off his car, but the unit itself doesnt have a serial stamped into the housing like regular Radios do (which Audi Tech guy confirmed and named as a reason).

There should be a sticker on the unit with the serial number in it. I think you can also find the serial number by pressing "info" or "setup" or something even though the unit it locked IIRC.

No Serial. No button does anything, the unit is just locked on the PIN entry screen. Pics to follow

Here is the top. Not sure if any of it is the serial? Im assuming that little pathetic spot of glue to the left of the big sticker used to be the serial eh?

I also called AoA and they stated there is no resource to retrieve PIN's...WTF? So 3 dealers and AoA state its impossible...sounds like I am SOL??? Then again, I seen other people online who got their PIN's retrieved through some system. I saw someone getting it on some answers.com website by an Audi Tech, asked the same question and they said its not possible I gotta go to the dealer...wtf is going on here

Have you tried EVERY 4 digit code yet? That's what I would do, just start with 0000 and go from there- you'll eventually get it.
Seriously though, I think it's VERY strange that there is no serial# stamped on that unit. Maybe I don't know the RNS-E very well, but every VAG radio I've seen since about 1992 has the serial # engraved on it.
As mentioned, use VCDS to scan it and you should see the serial #. Or email the seller/ somewhere in his manual the serial# might be recorded.
OR the Aisin unlock Cd if it's Euro.
If you can't get the serial# then at the end of the day you could have no way to unlock it.

It's a US version. Euro versions have "Radio" instead of "AM/FM".

Did some searching and found that it's not uncommon for RNS-E units to not have the AUZ number.

Some posts say that VAG-Com will display the AUZ number.

    Like this:

You're missing the point of this whole thread. Did you read it?

He can't find the serial number. It's not on the unit.
    AUZ number = serial number

After that, he can just call Audi of America. It's free and instant.

No, I'm not missing the point of this whole thread jackass. As suggested by BASARAB, if he can get the sn# via vag-com he can do as I did. Just letting him know what worked for me since he has seen mixed results. Save your attitude for someone else, dick.

Here is another option that has worked for some people: http://www.codecard.lt/car-radio/aud.../prod_392.html

I found similar CD's on some torrent sites as well but none of them worked on my unit.

Chill, dude. Relax. It was an honest question. It appeared (to me) to be a situation where you just posted a comment without reading that he doesn't know the AUZ# first. Apparently, I was wrong. A simple "Yes, I read the thread. blah blah blah." Would've been sufficient. No need to start name-calling. We're all just trying to help eachother here.

Justanswer is unreliable, the ONLY guy who gets pins from there is Louis Guiterrez and he pretty much didn't sign on all of 2011 and while he used to be active on it in 2010, not so much nowadays. You would probably either have to wait 6 months for his reply or possibly never get your answer with that route.

Yes you must bring the unit to the dealer in person, you can find AUZ# by plugging in vcds and giong to advanced ID. also I wouldnt trust "asin unlock cds' they can potentially brick your unit.
worst comes to worst swap out the motherboard with one that you know the code too.

There is no way that they are going to give you the code over the phone, thats like asking them to vag com your car over the phone,
There is no excuse for them not being able to retrieve the serial number when the units at the dealership.

and seriously to whoever said try every comination of numbers, you do know you have 2 chances before the unit goes into "safe" mode and you must wait for an hour.
so potentially if you wanted to do it like that it would take over 5000 hours.
heres a tip if you do go down this road - dont fuckin do it.
    however.....
you can enter the pin once, then unplug the unit, then you get 2 fresh chances.

you do not need to enter the VIN from the car the unit came from, they system will find the PIN even if you use your current VIN

Well I got my RNS-E installed this morning also, but I need my Pin also. I wanted to see about getting the Serial Number via VAG-Com since my Unit also doesn't show the Serial Number on the unit. It worked like a charm, but now I need my PIN still. What is the easiest way of getting it now?

Thanks, but taking the RNS-E with no car doesn't sound like it would work. We are waiting to install the 2.7TT when it is a little warmer. So car with no trams or engine doesn't go to the dealer very easy. I was talking about where online unless you can say a dealer can do this without a car.

Unless you find a way to contact Louis Guiterrez on Justanswer (hes the only audi tech who does it there), you could try asking one of the ebay people above who listed their ads as an "unlock service". They might be audi techs as well. Pretty much if your an audi tech you only need the serial number and a random vin to find the PIN to anything.

Louis is/was the man! I've gotten codes from him from JustAnswer.com at least twice, however this was at least a year or two ago and I have heard from other people since that nobody can seem to get codes from JustAnswer.com anymore.

Again +1 for the radios not having their serial number printed on the label. When I was going through this with my first RNS-E everyone said "just get the serial # off the top/side" and called me crazy when I said I didn't have one. Just like described, install it, then hook the car up to Vag-Com and you'll get it, from there you can get your PIN code. However just like others have said, it's hit or miss trying to get that code from a dealer. When I had this issue the first time the guy I bought it from said he was close friends with the guy at the dealer who told him he could get it no problem if you had the serial # and any VIN. Then I tried later on and was told it's not possible. Basically it can be done, but it depends on what dealer you're talking to and how their computers are setup at that location. I've run into the same issue's getting key's done. My local dealership said not only can they not cut the key, but can't even program them and that the only way for ANY audi place to get them is to order them from Audi using your VIN (bullshit). What they really mean, is that we aren't hooked up to Audi's database on our computer so we call in to order everything instead of doing work ourselves.

Wow. Yeah, i was being a little sarcastic. But hey, there's a chance you'd get lucky and the code would be 0007! That would take less than A DAY! huh? I mean, Am i right?

Here's where I guess we differ. I had the VIN to the Audi my S2+ came out of. That's what i used on the phone with AofA. Don't know if you can just use your VIN with AofA. I'd be curious to see if they'd do it.

The VIN really does not matter. They also might be willing to give out radio codes and not navigation codes.

Depends on your dealer, I mean If they have a b7 on the lot, how hard is it to pull it in, remove the radio and plug this one in, retrieve the code.
I brought one into the dealership and they found the code for me for free because they said the charge was to remove the radio from the car. I also guess I might have lied and told them that I had just talked to an Audi of Canada representative who said they will do it for free as long as it has been removed from the car. It's all about how you talk to people lol.
Make sure you bring your ownership papers and your keys too.
keep in mind - customer is always right....
    good luck.

Find the AUZ through VAG-COM and slip someone at the dealer a $20 to get it. I've been able to get the code of the RNS-E in a gallardo by plugging it into my car, using my VIN, and finding the AUZ through vag-com, then calling the dealer. Despite what they tell you, they need any audi VIN, and the AUZ # from the radio to find the code.

You can use any Audi VIN with the AUZ number. Like I said with the gallardo radio, my connect at Audi claimed he couldn't access the code with a Lambo vin, but with my vin, the code was retrieved and successfully plugged into the radio while it was in the gallardo.
