Can't recommend any tires, but I will pass this site along so you have it for future reference of any and all tire sizes on particularly sized wheels.

Good decision... From a safety stand point I would never feel comfortable running tires like the ones in the 215/35/19 pic... I would be worried everytime I rounded a curve too fast

yea i decided its dangerous, its my for my summer wheels so there only on the car for a couple of months for shows and such but the 225/35/19 are safer and a mild stretch in my opinion looks clean rather then a huge stretch

    agreed.

I think it's funny that some people will call my B7 a 4x4 because it's not lowered, but this "stretched tire" fad makes the car look like it could ride on railroad tracks.

    its not dangerous
    just saying

not saying its ideal but as long as the tire has been mounted properly, its been properly inflated, and it does not have heavy wear then you are fine
oh but shit you can say that about ANY tire lol

Tires and wheels are made so the bead is supposed to go on the lip. This is dumb.

granted its not as dangerous as some people make it out to be, however running a stretched tire on a racekor is about as pratical as a rear spolier on a FWD car.

Im backing vbrad on this one! Look at all the drift cars, 80% or more of them have pretty damn good stretch on their tires! OP Im running 225/35/19's on my car with no rub I would go with those!

thats why i said it wasnt ideal lol
just because its not ideal does not make it dangerous when done properly

    BUT

if you wanted to run a wider wheel but couldnt get the tires to fit without rubbing the fenders then stretch those suckers a tad
even though its stretched you still get a wider wheel/tire making for a better contact patch AND a little bit of stretch helps you feel turn in a little better

now im not saying this works for extreme set ups but a little bit of stretch is not really a problem

and just for the record i go both ways when it comes to tires
give me a stretched or meaty set up any day lol

Hey, this guy has his e36 w/ stretched tires on a track, and there's a picture of it on the internet! So obviously he's a tire-fitment aficionado...

Stretching tires is fine for slow-rollers, but for track use.....not so much. Pick one of the million common sense reasons... Smaller contact patch, tire sidewall loses the ability to flex adequately, bare rim has the potential to contact pavement, sidewalls are exposed to road way which could cause blowout, etc, etc...

Please show me where anybody said the guy with the e36 was a tire-fitment aficionado. If you go back and actually read, it's clearly stated that while it's not ideal for track use - it's not dangerous either.

I've always been asked how I drive on stretched tires daily in shitty road conditions such as Downtown LA where I live. Honestly, I see no difference.
My 225/35/19 on a 19x9.5 perform just as well as my 235/40/18 on a 18x8. I run our Malibu canyons through hair pin turns without a screech.

Of course the stretch is "fad" to most, but as Vance said you have to stretch your tires to fit wider wheels if that's your choice of wheel setup.
I'm soon going to be running 215/40/18 on a 18x10 and as I've researched, seen, and been told there will be no consequences.

Sure I won't be able to track my car, but I can still drive the car nearly the same as I do now. If done right, it's awlays possible.
And obviously this is all just my opinion, so don't go getting all critical and quoting me on shit. Lol.

i wouldn't say its not dangerous....comparably speaking, a stretch tire vs a non-stretched tire; the stretched tire is more dangerous.....how dangerous? not much, but you can't say its not dangerous, it is certainly not ideal

to calmly and rationally rebuttal to vbrad's response, i didn't mean for my post to come off as more so supporting the not so dangerous aspect, my main point i was trying to get across was that a stretch tire on a racekor is not pratical under any circumstances.

the second picture you posted you remarked that if you wanted to run a wider wheel stretch the tire a bit, in the grand scheme of things, running that tire, but a narrower wheel would be the same thing, but less rotational mass given the narrower choice of wheel

if you really wanted to run a wider wheel and it was for racing purposes, you would just have your fenders pulled a bit to make everything good.

stop me if im wrong, i just dont see the practicality in adding a wider wheel, i.e. more weight and getting nothing in return (bigger contact patch = slightly more handling)

this is not to say i don't understand why people stretch tires, it all boils down the form vs function aspect, here i am, on the super function side of things just trying to make a decent response. but for everyday driving, i think a stretched tire is perfectly a-ok in term of safety and driveability....do i like it? no its not my glass of whiskey, but i understand what the purpose is

ill add that i was never arguing the practicality of a stretched tire on a race car...just that its not as bad or impractical as some people make it out to be
but for a majority of the population it really does not matter since most people dont drive hard enough to notice or even cause a difference...

my friends sc300 with a 1j swap...fully gutted...seats, harnesses, balls to the wall fast (also in the process of a big single turbo swap)
going around corners the thing rubs for days but the car handles insanely well considering its set up...

im not saying im going out to an autocross with stretched ass tires...no...not because i think its dangerous but because like i, and others have said its not entirely practical
but could you do it? sure! would it be any worse handling than a car with a "normal" size tire set up? its hard to say...
but again for a majority of people...they dont drive hard enough for it to matter...even if you THINK you drive hard lol

    pics of said lexus...

AND ill be the first one to admit, i myself have had a sidewall failure that i will venture to say was because of a stretched tire that was under inflated...im not saying thngs dont happen because they do
but again just not as often as people seem to think

    is this considered a stretch?

im wondering what people consider to be a stretch...
because to me that is a slight one
and like i said above, these cars, in order to have the wider wheel, used a narrower tire so it would not contact the fenders...

i think people seem to forget that ANY tire can have a blow out
but once someone with a stretched tire has a blow out OMG itz bcuz stretch!

yes tires wear out faster, and they are more maintenance but as long as you keep up with all that its a non issue!
and i for one didnt keep up with it lol which is what led to me having an issue
but you can say the same for my moms saturn...old worn and choppy as shit tires...had a blow out...she didnt keep up with it either lol

but yes there definitely is definitely a limit and i am in no way denying that...

I think stancing, stretching, [insert latest fab here] is retarded. What do I win?!

Also why is it you usually see the dudes with stanced out cars driving slow as balls in Seattle. Because its totally impractical on our shitty roads. And they often are slow drivers. Not sure why...
