i wouldn't say its not dangerous....comparably speaking, a stretch tire vs a non-stretched tire; the stretched tire is more dangerous.....how dangerous? not much, but you can't say its not dangerous, it is certainly not ideal
to calmly and rationally rebuttal to vbrad's response, i didn't mean for my post to come off as more so supporting the not so dangerous aspect, my main point i was trying to get across was that a stretch tire on a racekor is not pratical under any circumstances.
the second picture you posted you remarked that if you wanted to run a wider wheel stretch the tire a bit, in the grand scheme of things, running that tire, but a narrower wheel would be the same thing, but less rotational mass given the narrower choice of wheel
if you really wanted to run a wider wheel and it was for racing purposes, you would just have your fenders pulled a bit to make everything good.
stop me if im wrong, i just dont see the practicality in adding a wider wheel, i.e. more weight and getting nothing in return (bigger contact patch = slightly more handling)
this is not to say i don't understand why people stretch tires, it all boils down the form vs function aspect, here i am, on the super function side of things just trying to make a decent response. but for everyday driving, i think a stretched tire is perfectly a-ok in term of safety and driveability....do i like it? no its not my glass of whiskey, but i understand what the purpose is
