It's the crappy 2.5l V6 diesel you should stay away from, this v8 is great :D
(I bought it mainly to drag my Audi S2 Sedan around on trailer :P)

Good to know! How's the mileage? I have debated between a TDI A8 for cruising or a 8L S3.

I'm not shure how to guys say it, but something like 24MPG with mixed (soft) , and 18MPG if you like to use some of its power :p
Shure, you could get it down to 35MPG (roadtrips etc)

This is stock setup, if chipped I will assume you could get it down to 71MPG

(Info: Norwegian prices; 11USD per Gallon of Diesel :p)

30 is good. 71 is nuts. You seriously think that's possible?

    How's the power? I have only driven a 86 Jetta n/a diesel.

70 should be possible, but you need a dieselchip specialist...
I'll let you know when mine has been adjusted:)
    The power is awsome :-)
    Nothing like a boosted up 5syl, but great for a 2tonn A8 :)

Looking to do a similar stance on my car. What tire size are you running on the 20x10's?

~220hp is stock about as much as a 3.0 V6 tdi. As far as how much they can make probably 260-280 with software.

    Tires are 245/35-20 :-)

You could get very close to 290hp with proper software :-)

That's nuts. But if I were to get the acclaimed 70mpg, at $11 a gallon I'd save $4 on my daily commute. I spend about $10 a day averaging 20mpg. But if I could get that 70mpg with our lower American prices, my daily school commute would only cost me $2.8. That's huge over the course of a year. Instead of spending $1500 a year in gas I'd only spend $400.

I need to get me a 3.3 A8, it can only help my education

5,000,000,000,000 "torques" as Clarkson would put it.

    All Over!

The A8 D2 3,3 V8 TDI is an awesome car, mapped ones are quicker than S8's. 70 mpg is a pipe-dream though, regardless of mapping techniques.

In terms of torque, I believe the ZF trans will be the limiting factor here. The motor is capable of a lot more than Audi claim, but torque is toned down to keep the tranny happy. Stock S8 trans are not as long-lived as the same in an A8, not because it's weaker, but because the S8 produces more torque. The 3,3 TDI V8 produces even more, with a massive hike in torque, it won't be long before things start to break. No manual option either.

Old thread but had to ask some questions because I'm looking to pick up an S8.

I'm looking to run the following wheels specs along with tires and suspension and I'm wondering if it will work in the front with regard to suspension clearance due to the slightly higher offset but I know I can run spacers to pull away from inner suspension parts as well. Your insight would be appreciated on how much space you feel is in those wheels wells.

    Lowered with St Coilovers

    Front
    20x10 et35
    255/35/20

    Rear
    20x11 et35
    285/30/20

These are the 20x10 and 20x11 wheels from Varrstoen but with 255/30/20 and 305/25/20 tires
