Pros and cons of a wheel stud conversion?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I would just like to have your opinion on wether its a good idea or not? I do think it gets life easier when it comes to putting the wheels back on the car but i may not see the bad side of it?

I have 'em so my wheels work, but there pretty cool to have. they'll hold your brakes in place when putting your wheels on. that's about the only benefit i can think of.

    Let me chime in.

If you go to any shop that will remove the wheels, they will give you shit. They say its not an OEM part, and that it is not safe. They wont want to work on the car.

One of the only downsides I can see is if you plan on running spacers, especially larger ones.

    Past:

    - B7 avant, 3.0t swapped
    - B8 S4, Stage 2+
    - B6 S4, not stock
    - B5 S4 Clone, built motor, 2871r

A place between here and there

    Pros:
-Comes in handy if you are the type to take your wheels off a lot.
-Comes in handy when placing your wheels on
-If you choose the most common 2.5" stud, you can place up to a 15mm spacer
-Just makes things much much easier
-Running a 14x1.5 to 12x1.5 stud conversion allows you to use 114.3x5 wheels (better solution to wobble bolts)

    Cons:
-People say that they can back out on you over time, but placing a good thread lock on before placing them on should prevent this.
-Does not give it that clean look as lug bolts would, if the stud protrudes (tuner lugs or lug caps help in this dept)

I personally run the Raven MS studs with 2.5" shank, 034 ball seat lug nuts (better than the Raven MS ones), Rad Lock lug nut lock kit, 8mm spacer up front, 12mm spacer on the rear, and am glad I went this route.

it was done on my car by the po and it sucked. that first it was fine then the studs started threading out and eventually stripped my hubs causing my wheel to fall off. its not worth it in my opinion. lug bolts are better because its easy to change the size with them, if you want to run spacers its easy to just switch to longer lug bolts rather than having to remove and replace studs.

With the studs when you get spacers you don't have to change any hardware if you get extended studs to begin with.

While im there i already posted this question but with no answer, im looking into a nice set of 18" but here are the specs :

    18x8.5 in front
    et35
    215/40/18 tires

    18x9.5 in rear
    et35
    235/40/18

I know different tire sizes can mess up quattro but is there a way to make these work ? thank you!

I would do 225/40 all around.

    Or 225/40 and 255/35.

    You would be pushing it.

I think its around 2.8% difference in rolling diameter (max should be around 3%).

I do have 2 225-40-18 tires at home, i could replace the 235 with them and should be alright? it would be stretch a bit and there will be less difference in tire sizes ?

225/40/18 on a 9.5 is a good amount of stretch. That's what I currently run on my amgs.

Also I bought studs so I could run my AMG wheels, the hubs on the wheels are very long, stock lug bolts didn't even make it through the wheel. Got mine from Ringer Racing

I do not run 9.5s all around because I still need to find 2 more 9.5s. I have 8.5s in the front.

I did. But there was no stretch on the 8.5s and I wrecked my fenders. Everyone one told me stretch the front, but I just had to learn that the hard way.

I have 225's on my BBS RC's (18x8.5) and there is a lot of stretch compared to other 225 x 8.5 set ups. I think it's because the tires run narrow (Bridgestone RE-something).

That's really odd. I'll get pictures up tomorrow. There is more stretch than in my Falken 512's.

    They are RE750.

I thought I had seen more stretch:
