    Successful C6 A6 Horsepower mods?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking for some rather inexpensive mods to do to the ol' 05 A6 of mine. My friend has a vag com and says the best tuning you can do Audis is usually in the computer.

I am fairly new to tuning and was turned off when he said he wasn't sure how to program the newer computers (he's into older audi's, etc)

    My two questions:

    1) Are there any fairly inexpensive mods to do to the 05 A6 of mine to get a little more pickup thats been successful for you guys?

    2) Doing computer mods - does that put more strain on everything? I'd like to try to make this car last as long as it can.

    Thank you!

Do you have the 3.2 or 4.2?

Unfortunately, neither engine will see any major HP gains without significant investment on your part. I know there are ECU tunes available for both engines but neither are going to produce anything near as significant as they would with a forced induction engine. From what I've read, the tunes offered on the 3.2 and 4.2 A6 are pretty lackluster. However, consider contacting JHM if you have the 4.2. They are known for their prowess with the 4.2 in the B6/B7 S4. I am unsure as to whether they offer anything for the A6, though.

Also, if you do have the 4.2, an exhaust will definitely make you smile. Won't be much HP gain but the car will sound quite mean.

There are a lot of cool things you can do with a vag-com but unfortunately they are not related to power.

    Check this out:

Really your call as to whether it's worth it. $500 is relatively cheap for a tune but then again, you're not getting much bang for the buck.

i was looking at this myself as i ahve the 05 3.2 as well. that's expensive HP and not sure if it's worth it. if i have $500 just laying around bored i might just spend it but seeing that i don't not really worth it to me. just got my tax return backa nd that normally when i make a purchase like this but still never appealed to me enough to do it.

if you do get it let me know how it is!

That gain (if proven) is still only a 5% increase in power.

Do you notice the car being much quicker/slower when you are by yourself vs. with a passenger? That change in power/weight is about 5%.

The reality is for a power gain to be noticeable it has to be pretty substantial. For a car like an A4/A6 you have to gain around 20-30% to see 0.5-1.0s improvements in acceleration times, which is noticeable and makes the car seem decently quicker.

I don't have any experience with the Unitronic tune and my experience with the 3.2 is limited to the Q5. However, note that tunes don't just benefit you in the HP sector. There are all sorts of other changes which improve responsiveness and overall feel of the car. I believe that's 13HP gained to the crank, not wheels, so it will be pretty negligible.

$500 is relatively cheap for a tune so, if you are willing, I say go for it and let everyone know your thoughts.
