Just wondering what motor oil everyone uses in their S4. I've always been a Mobil1 guy, so when I hit my first change at 5,000 miles I'll be switching over to Mobil1 0W-40.

    What oil do you use?

FYI the factory fill is Fuchs, not Castrol. Castrol is what the dealerships use though.

I have audicare so the dealership does my 10,000 mile changes, but I do in-between changes at 5,000 with Mobil 1 Euro 0W-40. I'll switch up to Amsoil once I'm past Audicare and likely do changes at 7,000

You should add an option for "other". Castrol, among others, makes drasticlly differant oils despite the labels and the "names" looking similar.

I am currently using GC, Castrol 0W-30 Euro. Changing it every 5K but will be using Penzoil Ultra 5W-40 Euro at the end of this interval.

The Castrol that the dealer uses - I believe it is the US made 5W-40 - is not good very for our cars, it is a whole different oil than the GC... Between Redrocker and the BITOG forum you can pick up a lot of info on this topic....

My dealer uses pennzoil since they are owned by Penske. They used to use Mobil 1

You learn something new every day. My A5 and MkV R32 came factory fill with Castrol so I just assumed the S4 did as well. Oops.

Good idea about adding an "other" category.

Does anyone know how to edit a poll? I tried going in to edit my post and it didn't give me the option to edit the poll.

The first number is the "cold" weight of the oil. Basically, what the oil is on a cold start up. The second number is the weight of the oil when the engine is at operating temperature. It's a little more complex than that because the actual weight of the oil changes with temperature. But, that's a basic way to remember what the two numbers stand for.

In addition, unless indicated otherwise, dealerships are not obligated to use a specific brand of oil, they are only required to use oil that are within the facotry specification.

I know for a fact that one of the local dealership here uses Mobil 1 0W-40 instead of Castrol. So if anyone has their heart set on one specific brand of oil, it is best to call the service department and ask what they use in the shop.

Factory fill FUCHS from Eurotech. Might switch to Motul next though. Hear it's great oil for Audi motors, as well as Lubro Moly

I think Mobil 1 is the best. All the others came after

When I started using M1 back in 1993 it stated in the bottle that it was good up to 45,000 km. since the 4 liter bottle used to cost 200 dollars back than in my country I used that oil at least for 30,000 km between changes on my Civic VTI. I beat the shit out of that car always and with 150,000 km on the clock I sold it to a friend who had it for 3 more years. The car never burned oil.
I have no need to try other brands after testing in real life with my VTI.

    Well guys,

I pulled the trigger and ordered the Motul Specific from APR's website. After reading and reading I have come to the conclusion that there are PLENTY of GOOD motor oils and in the end the choice comes down to preference and advertising. APR's recent endorsement COMBINED with nothing but positive factoids and reviews of motul in our engines is what decided it for me in the end! Thanks for all the info.
