    Plasti-Dip Unpainted lower bumpers??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Curious to know if anyone has tried Plasti-Dipping unpainted lowers. I've got a black car, figured it could work but wanted to see pics or see if anyone has failed/succeeded with it before I attempted.

its a satin finish with plastidip unless you use the add on shine (can't think of the name of it), so umm what would the point be?

I've had the grey unpainted lowers for years now. Looking to do something different without breaking the bank. And yes I do like that Satin/Matte finish of Plasti-Dip on certain parts of the car, just not sure how it would turn out on lower bumpers for B6.

Thinking the same, but my car is silver (LY7J), should I go black or paint code match?

^ I'd Probably go paint match then plasti-dip certain part of the bumper and/or grille trim.

Ive thought the same thing before. Im in a black B6 as well and often times the unpainted lowers just drive me nuts. Id like to have a solid black all around. But then again, I just might swap out and get color matched S4 everything and call it a day :)
Lets see who is brave enough to try it first.

The amount of rocks and sand that fling up from the tires would shred apart the plasti dip and then would look like poo......dont do it. Do it right or do it twice! Also its an Audi, keep it classy or look trashy. Just my .02

Yeah they hold the middle of the bumper so it won't sag.

im doing it to my newly painted s4 rear valance this weekend.

as far as "just peeling it off", you only have a few weeks at best to make that decision. my grilles have been done for 2 years now, and theres no way it will peel off. it seems like its sun-baked on there.

Eh, I would not do it... But it's peelable so, why not just give it a try. Then try spray with glossifier thingy. For me, i got DG and thinking of order match paint and have em painted with some rattle cans.

HAHHAH, you and me both. Finish up and pull it outside... 'Oh crap, that's gotta come off right now.'

I've been watching all the DipYourCar.com vids as they come out to learn all the techniques in case I really did want to try something like this. But a while ago I did a quick PhotoChop using a crappy pic to see what it might be like. Could have some potential.

Unpainted lowers match better than plastidip would.

See, that's my beef... they're so close to the color that to me it makes them stand out that much more as something that doesn't match. Example, UPL on a silver car appears more black which is HOT. UPL on DG looks gray-ish but obviously not the same. It might look epic, could look terrible. Maybe I'll do a better 'chop w/a higher resolution shot and see.

Why wouldn't you just use a heat gun to restore the lowers?

Seen a few B5's done and it really restores the plastics. $20 heat gun + little time = great results while keeping it OEM.

Well, I just went thru that thread and searched for something related to what you're saying and can't seem to find anything. Assuming you meant using a heat gun on the UPL to improve the overall look of the plastic? Considering I have a $20 heat gun I'd be down to give this a go for sure. What's the story?
