    Dirty/corroded Coil Pack

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was replacing the spark plugs on my '07 3.2 and I noticed that almost all of my coil packs had corrosion on the metal tube. Everything seems to run just fine. Is this typical or does it indicate a bigger problem? Thanks!

Any pics? My 04' S4 CP's have no corrosion and look good as new.

    Corrosion like rust?

As long as the car is functioning properly I would imagine they should be OK.

Do you have engine covers on and or a belly pan? These items help reduce the amount of moisture that gets in to places where corrosion can start.

Jason - Not quite rust. Looks more like the corrosion on a battery terminal.

And the 3.2 doesn't really have an engine cover over that area. but the belly pan is there.

Interesting, I've never personally heard of coils developing that type of corrosion - but I can't say it isn't possible due to the fact that electricity does pass through them.

Clean them up and add some dialectic grease to the ends of the coils and call it a day. As long as your car isn't missing I wouldn't replace anything yet.
