Question White rims on Green A4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I've been thinking about plastidiping my rims (just because with a newborn on the way, I can't afford anything else). I'm trying to figureout what color would look best. I'm thinking about trying white, but I'm not sure how that will look. I know I can peel it off, so I'm willing to give it a go. I just thought I would get some opinions from you guys. I included a pic (best one I could find at work) of what my rims looked like before a buddy of mine did me a "favor" and cleaned them with something that totally F*d the finish on them.

    Thanks guys!

    Mike

If you're trying to be different, white rims on a green car will do it. The only concern I would have would be brake dust. I have the stock brake set-up and my front pads love to spew their dust on my front wheels. I'm sure there will be a lot of upkeep, but I would like to see some pics if you go through with it. Good luck!

With that green I think you should go with bronze/gold with the polished lip if you're shootng for something different. You can even do that with plastidip so you can peel it off if you don't like it. Or just restore them to the original color or something close.

White would definitely work but you'll need a different wheel with a aggressive stance. For the brake dust, get the Akibono Ceramic brake pads. Literally I have not washed my wheels in 3 weeks and they look like I just did and I drive my car every day.

Glad to hear a positive review of the akebono ceramics! Everyone is all about hawks here so you rarely hear about them.

And OP be different, go for white. I think with the green it would like nice! But not with those wheels.

x2, I'm looking for new brakes soon for my stock setup. I might have to look into the Akebono's. Were they pricy? Where did you get them from?

Advance Auto Parts actually carries the Akebono's. They are pricey though....$180 for front and rear.

What do you guys think about the gunmetal color that DipYourCar.com sells? Keep in mind I'm a broke father-to-be so different wheels isn't an option

Rock auto has akebono cheap...I run B7 S4 fronts and got a set of akebono ceramic pads for ~$81 iirc. I love not having to clean my wheels 3 times a week

Edit: OP, I also vote gold. But if you're going the cheap route, I think they look good as is...

1Scientist, They look good in that pic, but since that was taken a buddy was trying to clean them for me and used a butyl based cleaner, which destroyed the finish. When/if is stops raining I will take a pic so you can see what they look like now. It even took all the color off the center caps.

Thank you! I still find it hard to believe they're letting me raise another human being

I think I'm gonna go with gunmetal for now. If I don't like it, at least it peels off.

    Thanks guys

I agree on the gunmetal. Looks good whilst not being too flashy. Plasti-Dip is a good way to go because you can always peel it off later(one of the reasons I think people love the stuff; they can dip all sorts of things without committing to it.)

one of my friends has a Mini Cooper also green and was trying to paint his winter wheels white was a bit of a maintenance issue so I told him he should have went with an off white and he wound up with a vanilla white that way if they get dirty tou don't have to clean them right away.

Ok, I bit the bullet on the matte gunmetal wheel kit. I will post pics of them once I get them done.

Edit: Here is a pic of my wheel today, it actually looks worse in person.

Do gold. A pic of gold Avus on my old silver b5. Needs to be something slightly metallic.

They were dirty in the pic but you get the idea.
