    Difference in B7A4 model year: 2005.5-2006 & 2007-2008

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Searching for a B7 and wondering what's the difference in the model years 2005.5-2006 & 2007-2008? Specifically, I see that APR has a K04 kit available, but only for the 05.5-06 B7A4's... Why?

To answer the original question, we have different engine versions 5.5-06 have engine code BGP, while later models 07 and later are BWT (in N. American anyways). Others versions were only available in the European markets like the BUL which was the engine offered on the 05 A4 DTM. there is a post, somewhere here, that list the specific differences between the engines (ECU map, compression ratios, etc) I think there are 7 different engine variations total. If you want to know more practice your google-foo.

Very awesome!! Thank you guys for posting this info! I swear I searched different combos of the years, but not engine code!

Also, in case anyone else has this similar question in regards to the APR K04 setup I got this response from APR:
Unfortunately it has to do with the ECU programming required to go along
with the K04 upgrade, not the turbo kit itself. Hopefully we will be
able to offer this mod sometime in the future for you!

05.5s, oddly enough, have seemed to have less problems overall. You get a color display! But you have a smaller fuel rail valve.
You also get a slightly softer cam, but the hpfp has very few problems. There are also 05.5 models with heated rear seats.

Most of that could be said of the 2006's too. (mine had color DIS, memory seats & mirror tilt, etc). I believe any year can have heated rear seats if you have the cold weather package - but too lazy to look it up and confirm

My 06 has heated rears, bose, 3-spoke MFSW, but no DIS features (just the DTE readout), non-sport, y-spoke 17"s, and that's pretty much it. I don't think I even have a ski passthrouhg. I'm pretty sure heated rear could also be added as a standalone option, in addition to the Cold Weather package, but I dont know for certain.

Also why does everyone call it a FAKE S-Line. Its basically the normal package from 08 on. The S-Line guys have plenty of things to be fortunate for, they don't need to get so butthurt about them facelifting the frontend! Cripes!

Awesome this may explain the differences in pistons that I noticed between Jeff's (vizi) 2005.5 B7 and the OEMplus B7

Hey.....watch with the fake shyte comments....my S-Line is real, except for the chrome pedals and door sills, I guess you can call it half-ass S-Lines. As for the Diverter Valve, nope, I recently replaced mine and it was a 'C', no tears or cracks though, not yet but decided to upgrade to the 'D' version to save some headaches down the line.

Some noticable differences between the engines:
    - BPG (US Spec) 280Nm at 2000rpm / compression ratio of 10.5
    - BWT (07 US) 280Nm at 1800rpm / compression ratio of 10.5

    - BWE 280Nm at 1800rpm / compression ratio of 10.3
    - BUL (DTM engine) 300Nm at 2200rpm and has an output of 162KW. Also has the same compression ratio as the BWE of 10.3
You can find what engine you have on the sticker on the timing belt cover.
I'm assuming that the BWE engine uses the Vizi style piston, where the BWT uses the Dome flat top style piston found in the OEMplus.com B7?!

I have an early 2005.5 3.2. It is loaded. Color screen, heated front and rear seats, driver and passenger power seats, power folding and auto turn-down outside mirrors, auto dimming internal and external mirrors, compass, rear heated seats, 3-spoke MFSW, ski tube, adaptive xenons, sport suspension and 5-spoke 18" alloys.
I got really lucky as I really just walked into a Toyota last December having seen the car on the web and it turned out to be an absolutely pristine car with 38 k miles for $17,500 with a 3-year extended warranty. It was a heck of a deal. I knew nothing about options or packages, only that I wanted the V6 - hey I was coming out of a 4.2L V8 Jaguar XJ8....

Wait a min. Is this the one with the parktronic, woodtrim/leather steering wheel, RNS-E and automated side shades?
I saw a 06 3.2 that was really fully loaded with your amount of miles on autotrader.

Parktronic seems to be the very rare items within the B7

I don't (think) I have the sport suspension or the 18" wheels (glad for that) but otherwise my 05.5 is Black on black with all the same goodies. Mine had 105,000 miles on it, but I got it for $8200 cash. It was missing the glovebox door but I scored a complete black glovebox for $140, then just to be safe I did coils, plugs, BSH PCV fix, DV, N80 & N75. Still have no idea what engine code but it's not even 5AM and 17* out, so I'm not going to check just yet.

Parktronic seems to be the very rare items within the B7
This was December last year at the Maund Toyota used car lot on 183 in Austin TX. I think one reason for the low price is that no one wants an AWD car in the south and it was priced down because of that. Oh and also because it had a very ugly Yakima bike rack bolted to the top of it in all the dealer photos. They were asking over $20K for it and I got them down to $17.5K with the 3-year gold start warranty through Toyota.

I came in between Christmas and new year - basically the end of their quarter and their year and waved a cash offer at them. They were hungry to make their sales targets.. The Yakima came straight off and went on CL the next day, fetching my $180. Oh an no, unfortunately, it doesn't have parktronic - as you say there are rarer than rocking horse sh1t! I am still trying to find the right backup camera to hook up to the Dynavin but so far everything I have seen doesn't look OEM enough....

    I have a BPG engine in mine...Lol

Weird... I sent APR an email and Steve Graupner from APR responded with what I quoted above.
I was specifically asking about the APR S3 K04 kit for the B7A4 2.0T.

I saw a 06 3.2 that was really fully loaded with your amount of miles on autotrader.

Parktronic seems to be the very rare items within the B7
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure no B7 came with automated side shades. The side shades are manual (mine are at least), and the rear is automated.

What? Everyone doesn't have heated rear seats? ;-) I also have the auto lowering right mirror when reversing...but that's off the engine topic..

Touche, but.... I have navi in the form of a Dynavin, which I am very happy with. I have never used an RNS-E so can't compare but the Dynavin does everything I want. I have a 32GB USB memory stick for memory, iPhone connector, Nav, Bluetooth, DVD on the move, MP3 DVD playback and it looks like it has always been there. I think the Navi is a rare beast on any A4.

NO! Rear heated seats and memory seats/with right lowering auto mirror does not exist in 2008 model years. Oh well :(
