In praise of CRC Brake Quiet

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This past June, I replaced my front brakes and rotors and decided on some PBR Ultimate Ceramic pads (http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2192/). I bought them because the price looked good and it didn't occur to me that performance oriented pads might make a lot of noise. Sure enough, ever since I put in the new pads my car has sounded like a semi-truck every time I approached a stop light. It finally annoyed me enough this past week (after months of tolerating it) for me to start looking for replacement pads--even though I only had a few thousand miles on the pads. Luckily, in my rage fueled quest to get some quiet pads, I stumbled upon some recommendations for brake quiet products. After a few more searches, I decided, "why not" since a bottle CRC Brake quiet only cost $5 and I could always replace the pad if it didn't work. I applied it today and afterwards drove around for an hour and my car is finally quiet. I can actually pull up to a red light without bracing myself for the screeching noise. My life has suddenly become a lot less stressful.

From now on, I'll always remember to have a tube of this stuff on hand when I change my brake pads. This stuff is gold.

I've read that the spray version doesn't work as well. I chose the gel version since it should technically do a better job of reducing movement between the pads and the caliper because of its thickness. It did take a really long time for the gel to dry, though. Perhaps the spray would have dried much quicker. I think it being winter, the gel simply would not solidify in the cold. I ended up using a hair drier on max heat to get it to dry faster--and even then it didn't dry completely. I eventually got tired of waiting for it to dry and installed it while it was still sticky. It still did its job though, so I'm not bothered.

Pshaw, not all of us want to make it sound like we're driving a tractor-trailer.

I bought mines at Napa, but you might be able to get it at advanced auto or autozone. I'd go to Napa first, if it's near you, since the one I bought had Napa branding along with the CRC branding on it.

I used to have a lot of ceramic noise with my pads and rotors on my Scion tC when i had it. Only when they were cold though, which was normal thing. But with my Audi, i put a full set of slotted adamsrotors on the front and rear with hawk ceramic pads and used this stuff i got from the Audi dealer i work at thats like a copper anti-seize type compound and my brakes have been dead silent no matter how warm or cold

NO! Do NOT spray/apply it on either of those two places. You apply it to the BACK of the pads. When you think about it, it makes no sense. But its just one of those things where "Thats how it works. Ask no questions"

Again, it goes on the back of the pads (the part where the caliper piston touches the pad)
