    Brake Pressure Sensor

    Hi all,

I have been getting the traction and ABS light the odd thing is first couple of times when I pressed on the brake to slow down it would make this bang sound but brake fine. Now the lights are on but doesn't make the bang sound first time braking.

Do I assume its brake switch? Here is the code.

    01435 - Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)
    35-00

    Thanks

I'd start with the brake pedal switch. I had the same code intermittent, I messed with the pedal switch and haven't seen it since.

The fault is not for the brake switch, it is for the "pressure sensor - G201". This is a sensor which measure *brake fluid pressure* (NOT brake pedal position).

This sensor is integral to the ABS/ESP control module. The first course of action would be to perform Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) Basic Setting procedure within the ABS module. If that does not take care of it, you can try getting the module repaired by an aftermarket facility, or replacing the module entirely:

Well reason I replaced the brake light switch most people who had the problem the brake light switched fixed it $14 part. Do you happen to know the part number and or a how to?

Indeed, there are 2 possible causes:

    Possible Causes

    Brake Pedal Switch (F) faulty/jammed
Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) faulty

    Possible Solutions
    Check/Replace Brake Pedal Switch (F)
    Check/Replace Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)
ABS Hydraulic Unit (N55) may need to replaced
    Perform Brake Pump Bleeding
Perform Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) Basic Setting
Replace Brake Electronics Control Module (J104)

Since you've already addressed the pedal switch, I would take a look at the G201 value in vag-com and attempt the Basic Settings procedure. If the brake switch was the cause, it may continue to throw the code until the procedure is performed.

mine has just thrown this fault although the addition is

    35-10 Intermittent

I recently replaced the brake pressure switch and since then this has come up. How do you carry out a Basic Settings procedure for the brakes?

The pressure sensor (1) seems to be on the master cylinder, so perhaps this is at fault, or does it need to be adapted to the new brake pressure switch?

    Thanks

You replaced brake pedal/light switch or the sensor? I replaced my pedal/light switch and was battling this even after but it turned out I didn't set the brake light switch correctly. It took a bit of fussing.

i changed the switch. What exactly did you do to set the brake light switch properly? My brake lights come on as normal but every so often the warning light comes on on the dash and the scan always shows this fault relating not to the switch but to the pressure sensor. A bit coincidental after the switch change that the sensor is now 'faulty'?

Mine would turn on the abs and the ESP light (triangle with ! In the middle and circle around it).

I pulled it out and reset it based on the brake position at steady state. It wouldn't cut the cruise control off at the first hint of the brake. It would take a bit of brake push before the cruise control would kick out.

The plunger was just set too far away from the pedal. That cause of that mistake was the cruise control issue I just spoke of and the brake lights not coming on until after the brakes had been pressed. That was how I determined I didn't install it right in the first place.

Stick a mirror behind the top tail light or park against something that will show the tail lights. Ever so lightly touch your brake pedal and see if the brake lights come on at that instant. If not you have to adjust your switch, if they do then you have other problems

Mine seems to have resolved itself, so far a few hundred miles and the warning light hasn't come on fortunately :)

Spoke too soon :( indication flashed up first thing this morning on doing a fullock turn and again whilst going round a roundabout this evening. So the only tenuous link seems to be with turning manoeuvres. Any suggestions?

If I recall right in my search there was something about a steering angle sensor. Give that a search with abs in the search term and see if that leads you anywhere.

thanks caldy. Looks like i need to do a Basic Settings on the steering angle sensor. Have you done this?

Nope. Once I fixed my brake light switch it was fine ever since and I didn't touch that. With vcds though it should be rather easy
