Drive Select Individual settings for snow?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Was thinking to set up the individual setting to be a "snow" setting. Thoughts...

    Steering - dynamic
    Sport diff - dynamic
    Power - comfort

I don't think it'd make a difference really (unless ADS has a "tire grip" setting)... But the above is what I drive in all the time (well "Power" set to "Auto"). Set in MMI and VAG COM'd to default to Individual (thanks NWS4Guy - lol)

I'd think that "comfort" all around would be the most conservative for slick conditions. By setting the sport diff to dynamic, you're telling it to allow the back end to step out more, and more quickly. The sport diff will still be active in "comfort" but it will gravitate towards safer understeer. The steering input won't matter too much unless you have the full drive select (in which case, the lower ratio comfort setting is probably the best, as you can be more precise in your inputs and less likely to over-correct).

I have full ADS and drive in Comfort for the snow. If it's anything but super rainy or snowing I drive in individual set completely to dynamic.

    I agree...

The sport diff definitely reacts to the mode it is set in regardless of the traction. On slick surfaces I've had no problem getting the rear end out on even light throttle input (with snow tires), followed by the stability control reacting sharply to reign it back in - much like a modern RWD car. I've found the best mode for snow/ice is Comfort - if you don't mind the overly light steering. This way the sport diff can't get you into too much trouble.

off topic but can using the Vag-com default the ADS to your individual settings when you start the car? I hate to always have to select it to the Individual setting.

Why wouldn't you just put it in Dynamic instead of putting it in Individual and setting everything to Dynamic?

I would agree with everyone so far, the rear diff on low traction can be overly aggressive. On snowy or potentially icy conditions i shoot for:
    Steering: normal or dynamic
    Throttle: normal or comfort
    Diff: comfort
    Suspension: comfort

From what I hear, when driving in low traction conditions you want everything to be as progressive as possible, hence the comfort setting on suspension and rear diff. With the throttle in comfort I find myself over-reacting constantly thinking its not responding when in reality its just responding more smoothly and slowly, hence the normal or comfort for me. Steering is mainly a personal preference imho

TBH, I didn't look into what settings dynamic used. I looked at the individual settings and went to town. Does the Dynamic keep everything in dynamic?

I would prefer to keep stability control switched off. At least if I'm planning for some fun in the snow!

Haha...correct! If lurid powerslides and AWD donuts are your goal then by all means leave in dynamic and turn off stability control!! I haven't had the chance to get too wild yet.

Controlled sliding is my goal. For fun, I always drive my A4 with stability control off, and I expect to do the same with the S4. On the other hand, getting to work etc with a heavy snowfall I'll have the stability control back on.
