Seems like there have been a lot of motor mount replacement threads lately. I just replaced mine last Friday and I thought I would pass along a few tips from my installation. For starters here is an excellent write up from a4darkness: Clicky click. Some of you may not have seen it since it is buried in the middle of this thread: Clicky click Thomas's write up is on the money. I used the same Febi mounts that Thomas used. Best price I could find was from here: Clicky click (free shipping).
In addition to what Thomas outlined I would suggest doing two more things. The drivers side is very strait forward but the riders side is a bit harder to get to. I went ahead and removed the right side headlight and the air-box assembly. It only adds another 10 minutes to the job and it gives you a lot more room to access the upper mounting stud. The second suggestion is that after you remove the nuts from the bottom motor mount attachment studs go ahead and cut the studs off flush with the support bracket. This will make it much easier to work the motor mounts out of position after you jack up the motor. My rider's side was leaking and consequently had become a bit misshapen. I ended up having to hacksaw the stud off with the motor mount half out and wedged in an awkward position. I would have been a lot easier to just do it from the start.
Centering the mounts: I tightened up the top motor mount studs and left the lower ones loose. I also left the snub mount loose. I placed my ramps at the bottom of my slanted driveway so the car sat level even though the front end was on the ramps. With the car up to temperature and at idle I tightened up the lower motor mount studs. I slid the snub mount "cup" around to where it had no contact at all with the snub bushing and tightened it up. Absolutely vibration free idle:-)
Like Thomas posted, I also noticed a difference in the handling with the new mounts. The steering just feels a lot crisper. I guess not having the motor wallowing around under the hood makes a difference.
Hope the additional tips help someone out a little.
Have fun!
