    quick universal o2 sensor question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    b1s1 is throwing a code.
Will bosch 15730 sensor be a good replacement for the front o2 sensors?
And related - are fronts and rears interchangeable ? Can I just take out the rears, clean them up and swap them in the front?
Will they work the same? I will have the rears coded out eventually anyway

I searched btw but no deffinite answer, just a bunch of not-working ebay auction links

I dont think those are the correct ones.

I have the bosch 15733 universals: Autozone Bosch 15733, Amazon Bosch 15733

They seem to work just fine, had em on there for almost a year.

    Fronts and rears are interchangable.

    no worries.

The Autozone part finder does not list the 30's for our cars, I would be leary of using them instead of the 33's.

$250 for o2 sensor is dumb, lol.

I decided to not use those bulky connectors that come with them and just used these butt connectors (sourced from a local auto store IIRC) and shrink-wrap. Turned out pretty decent IMO, and was definitely worth the $100+ that I saved over going with a new OEM connector.

I would agree, the bosch is only $50 shipped, so I personally wouldn't risk it. Having said that though, I have no experience with the other sensor in question.

That works as well. The reason for the connectors that come with the universal sensors is because they're weather pack connectors. Since they're universal there's many different areas they can/will be mounted, so Bosch opted for the optimal idea to keep water and dirt out of the connectors. Yes, they are bulky, but they definitely do work. On that note - I installed 2 of them in place of the primary oxygen sensors on the last S4 and I've got 1 in my current S4 in place of a primary. All 3 worked perfectly, no more misfires and gas mileage has increased. They are absolutely worth the extra 15 minutes to install and saving yourself $50+ every time you have to replace one.

Yeah, not saying that the connectors are inferior or don't work, I just found it easier for me to just crimp on these butt-connectors and do it this way. With the heated shrink wrap, I feel comfortable that these are almost as weather resistant as the box and grommets, and I personally am not going to stress them at all.

Just so everyone knows though, like people are saying, the universal O2's come with splice connectors and everything you need to put the old connectors on the new ones. You don't need to buy any extra installation hardware like I did.

So jibberjive, theautotech and csosnowsky all used bosch 15733. Great, good enough for me.
If now I could only find someone who ships them internationaly. Amazon and ebay have so far yielded nothing good. Shipping to US only. Damn.

@Autotech, did you get CELs before you replaced o2s or maybe intermittent errors like me ? Hope this will help my mpg and some misfires

yeah i ran the universal bosch in my allroad for close to a couple years and worked great no codes and made my mileage go up about 2 when my originals were bad, the cheapest place i found the REAL bosch ones was amazon and i did a ton of research back in the day link: http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-15733-Ox...3371877&sr=8-1

Yes, I had CEL's for the sensors along with random/multiple misfires. Replaced both primaries in one car and one primary on the other and it cleared the issue for good. I ordered mine from Amazon as well. Looks like they just recently went up in price too. I think I paid 34 dollars a piece for mine. Would do it all over again the same way.
