That works as well. The reason for the connectors that come with the universal sensors is because they're weather pack connectors. Since they're universal there's many different areas they can/will be mounted, so Bosch opted for the optimal idea to keep water and dirt out of the connectors. Yes, they are bulky, but they definitely do work. On that note - I installed 2 of them in place of the primary oxygen sensors on the last S4 and I've got 1 in my current S4 in place of a primary. All 3 worked perfectly, no more misfires and gas mileage has increased. They are absolutely worth the extra 15 minutes to install and saving yourself $50+ every time you have to replace one.
Yeah, not saying that the connectors are inferior or don't work, I just found it easier for me to just crimp on these butt-connectors and do it this way. With the heated shrink wrap, I feel comfortable that these are almost as weather resistant as the box and grommets, and I personally am not going to stress them at all.
Just so everyone knows though, like people are saying, the universal O2's come with splice connectors and everything you need to put the old connectors on the new ones. You don't need to buy any extra installation hardware like I did.
