Getting water on passenger side back seat floorboard

Ok, I have a 2004 S4, It has not rained since the last time i got out the water, but it keeps coming back. It soaks the passenger side backseat floor. Can someone tell me where it could be coming from? No water has touched the car since and it still comes back.

Do you have a bottle somewhere in the car? There are no fluid lines with water or coolant anywhere in the back as far as I know. That is really strange

Not sure if this is the case for you, but my sunroof drain was causing this problem on a past VW. Took it into the dealership, and they fixed the issue since it was still under warranty.

no bottles in the car, has no kind of ordinary smell, my sunroof doesn't leak and its only the floor that has the water, up by the floor vents under the passenger seat is completely dry and the vertical carpet right under the back seat is dry so its just a sq. ft. region.

there are 4 drains for the sunroof 1 on each A pillar and 1 on each C pillar. I check the rear passenger drain, it goes trough the metal work I don't know where it ends up but I'd start there.

It would not be your actual sunroof leaking, just the drain lines.

Those drains were a huge problem on D2 A8's, (I speak from extremely irritating experience) if it's similar there are some write ups for that car if it helps. But when my car got water bc of the drains it was a s*** ton of water, so the fact that it's only a small area like you said is pretty weird

Ok, just tested the sunroof drain, seems to be working properly, some water came in from the 2 cups i poured in but it just doesnt seem enough to really soak my floor as it has been, Ill try to shove some wire through it one day and see if that helps any. Thanks everyone for the responses

I too had similar problems with a wet floor... Story goes like this; Just bought the car and after a week of bliss, I discover the passenger side front and rear carpets are damp after a rain storm... Not standing water or anything, just damp. I searched online for about 4 days straight and only came up with the sunroof issues. Tested it out like you did and nothing. So I kinda just lived with it for a week or so of discovering the problem and hoping it wasn't too serious and that I'd find a solution.

Then one day I noticed a small crack in my windshield. Got it replaced and after it was done, the installer asks me if I've ever had the windshield replaced. I told him no because I've only owned the car for about 2 weeks but I didn't dismiss the fact that the previous owner could have.

He tells me that the last installer put in the windshield incorrectly. He pointed out that the windshield shifted off center during the install causing a small gap. Thus water was able to seep in and trickle in and through the headboard and down the pillars! After the new windshield its been as dry as a bone for about a year now.

It may be a long shot, but just check your windshield towards the top and see if there isn't a big gap or anything. If you suspect that it is your windshield, have someone take a look at it. My installer said it was pretty obvious to him of the gap and any pro would be able to notice it as well. Good luck.

Definitely dont shove wire or anything in there your almost guaranteed to tear the drain lines. Instead use an air compressor if you can.

That may be a problem if i had water in more places other than the rear passenger floor, there are no water marks anywhere, it just ends up at the 1 sq. ft. spot

I saw on several DIY's to use wire or weed wacker line...where to use the compressor? the end of the drain or the beginning?

at the beginning, if there's any crud jammed up in the drain line you want it to come out of the bottom of the drain not explode back up into the sunroof area or whatever other drain your trying to unclog. i used copper tubing to get to the beginning of the drain then use compressed air on the end of it up blow everything out the bottom of the drain, whether youll need copper tubing or not will depends where the drain starts tho. you may be able to get right to the beginning of the drain without it. you can see in the photo what i mean about the copper tubing (this is on a D2 A8).
