That rubber/foam stuff is usually pretty soft, so you might be able to just push on it a bit to work the socket onto the plug. Otherwise, just get some long pliers and a flashlight, and fish that crap out of there.

happened to me recently, i used a coat hanger, bent one end and cut it close to the bend so it was sharp, then i got ahold of the rubber piece and pulled it up.

This! I have had this happen to me before and the magnet works like a charm. As a matter of fact I lost my rubber gasket and still use the magnet to get them out.

Looong pliers, they come very handy in our cars as the engine bay is a trap for anything dropped in there.

    Thumbs up

    +1 Coat Hanger indeed.

I registered for this forum, just to say thanks for this thread. My wife would have killed me if she had come home and found her car un-drivable. 5 mins with the coat hanger and the gaskets from not one but two spark plugs were cleared. Phewwww...

It's always a lucky day when anything dropped in an engine bay falls all the way to the ground. With the s4 of course you have better odds of winning the lotto.

Screw in a 3 inch dry wall/deck screw and use the needle nose pliers to pull it out. I did that with a broken dip stick on my daughters Jeep.
Put a little RTV on the rubber collar and stick it back into the plug socket or just leave it out.
