Airbag Light on. Fault code 00588- Airbag Igniter drivers side(N95) intermittent

Hi all, after previously having thought I'd fixed the problem after finding a 'how-to' on a forum, it has returned, so this time I have joined the forum to see if anyone is able to help and hopefully help anyone else with the same problem.

I had previously purchased an ebay VAG cable and attempted to clear the code without success. So I found a how-to and replaced the yellow connector under the drivers seat with bullet connectors, cleared the code and it stayed away for about 4 months.
When it returned about a month ago, I tried re-crimping and eventually resorted to solder and heatshrink tube, though each time the fault returned after about 30 mins of driving.

After trawling the net, I realised that the fault actually relates to the steering wheel airbag (so I'm not sure why the fault stayed away for 4 months?!). I couldn't work out what was causing the fault to be triggered, I logged 4 journeys to and from work using the ross-tech log option in meas. blocks and it is seemingly random when the 'too high' appears in the log. I tried all the obvious stuff such as moving the wheel up and down, steering left to right, tapping the steering column, and moving the underseat cable just in case but couldn't replicate the fault.

I thought perhaps it may be the battery as I had read elsewhere that a battery on the way out can through up airbag faults, and I had previously been told by a mechanic over a year ago that I be lucky to make it through last winter- though to this day I have had no problems with starting it up.

I tried again today and finally replicated the fault by moving the steering wheel, so I guess its looking like the clock ring.

My question really is that I cannot find a guide specific to the B6 on removing/ replacing the wheel or checking the pigtail connectors etc, there also a lot of confusion out there about faults with the ESP/ ABS system that cannot be removed by the freeware version of ross-tech. I've ordered a second had clock ring but I'm concerned that I might make things worse if I attempt to remove the wheel.

Sorry if I've missed a thread that covers this but I have looked long and hard to find one. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance

As I didn't receive any replies, I decided to go ahead and start troubleshooting myself.
With the Ross-Tech software running, I removed the two star bolts that hold the steering wheel airbag in place. I rotated the steering wheel and moved the cables but it wouldnt throw up the fault. I re-seated the pigtail cable at both ends and cleared the code.

That was about 10 days ago and so far the fault has not returned. If it does, I will replace the pigtail.

I hope this proves to be of some help to someone else.
