undercarriage Plastic Shields under driver seat, NOT belly pan

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So this past weekend with the snowfall here in jersey, my belly pan and plastic shields under the seats decided to call it a quits on me and got all torn up, etc, etc.

The belly pan I am not worried about because I am going to replace it with the aluminum ones I've been reading about.

As for the other plastic shield that runs along the bottom of the car, I can't seem to find any info on besides how people just took them off and left them off, but nothing on whether they werereplaced with another one or not.

I called the dealer on this and they want $200+ for that little piece of (sh**) plastic. Anyone by any chance no the Part# for it so that maybe I can find it cheaper somewhere else online.

Or can I drive my car without it? My concern is that this shield was also covering some lines, I'm going to assume brake fluid line or fuel line or something, not sure, haven't looked it up yet, but these lines are now vulnerable to any and all road debris that I may come upon.

Should I be worried and I get this replaced asap? or can I just let it ride for now and replace it later on?

Any insight from anyone who has experienced this would be appreciated...

If the dealer gave you a price, ask them for the part number(s) as well. The shields not only protect the underside of the car, but aid in aerodynamics as well, helping the air flow smoothly under the vehicle. Can you run without? Yes, for sure. If it were me, I'd replace them. You might be able to find them at a wrecker for cheaper.

I think Europaparts.com has them in stock, just not listed on their site.

they definitely make a difference with air. without them you will go down in mpg very slightly. If you find a place that makes them in aluminum, post a thread. I would like to replace mine. Not a huge fan of plastic down there

Good timing for this thread! haha.

Mine were torn to PIECES during this storm!! One of my underbody covers cracked at the front of the car, and was hanging down still attached at the backside... essentially making a huge shovel, if you can picture that. I was driving home in the storm literally plowing snow with it. ALL the snow I ran over got packed in under my car and was just dragging on the ground everywhere I went with tons and tons of snow packed in there... there was nothing I could do. It SUCKED.

To make matters worse... there was a downed smaller power line laying in the road (that thank GOD was not attached to anything) and got caught in the front of this stupid cover and I started dragging it behind me. The thing was like 20ft long too! So with all this crap packed between this cover and the underbody of the car, there was absolutely no way to get the wire out.

So, I did what most men would do. In a fit of rage, I picked up the power line from behind my car, and Rambo'd its ass right out. Fuggin' tugged it as hard as possible, and it ripped the cover right off, thankfully. Took care of most of the problem too! The only thing left is the cover under the motor which is on its last limb, dragging on the ground. At least that one is hanging from the back so I'm not picking up crap from the road.

Lesson to be learned: There are consequences of being low in the winter; but said consequences make for entertaining stories... making being low all the more worth it.

PS- If you find those covers for cheap, let me know! Otherwise I'm goin' bare bones from here on out. I can't afford shiz.. this storm killed us. Generator, furnace, tv, amongst others... all done for. But THAT is another long ass rant/story.. I'll spare you guys on that one ;)

Thanks for the quick reply guys.

I have a front lip on my car and fmic and apparently as I plowed snow, I also sucked it in lick a vacuum through the fog light openings because I had a pile of it sitting on top of my belly pan which i was dragging around and tearing up for idk how long. I only realized it yesterday when I was going to work and heard the dragging noise and saw half the belly pan on the ground and parts of the rest of the shield thing hanging.

Thank you VWNooby for the vin numbers. I was able to find them the cheapest here: http://www.genuineaudiparts.com

    $93.00 + $9.50 shipping = $102.50 (take that AUDI stealerhsip!)

I have my belly pan on now with zip ties holding it in place for now until I get the dieselgeek aluminum skid plate. I'll probably post some pics in here as well if anyone is curious to see how it looks once it's installed.

    Good stuff! Nice find.

Hopefully I can afford to get those sometime soon, but until then I'll just have to keep squeezing my ass cheeks every time I see an unavoidable pile of snow/ice/debris coming my way. Maybe I'll just go at the underbody one weekend with a crap load of aluminum foil and duct tape! Betcha can't wait for that pic post ;)

I actually did attempt placing aluminum in the place of the plastic, but it's hard to work under there with just jack stands.

I ordered the new part, maybe once I get it I'm going to use self tapping screws to secure the front of the shield so this doesnt happen again with the snow.

My belly pan was already destroyed and not on the car since my transmission fluid change change. It was attached with zip ties before. This storm tore off part of the drivers side plastic covering though. It dragged for a while, then a piece finally broke off. Then I just drove 140 miles and averaged 35.1 mpg with it was acting like an air brake and dragging at speeds over 72, which were enough to push it down enough to reach the road. I want to get an aluminum skid plate to replace my destroyed belly pan, but now I have to replace the side strip too. Fucking weather, broke my mirror too.

The one on my right side got destroyed last winter. I've been driving without it since but I should order one, I guess there's a risk to get the gas line damaged.

I believe it! Ice + cold temps + plastic = destroyed belly pans.

My belly pan didn't even make it through last winter.

I've heard this winter is supposed to be the worst to come so maybe we should stock up on these parts!

Eh ripped all mine off, who needs em lol though could be the source of a whistle is hear over 55mph, but so far no reall noticeable consequences not running them?! I did hit a bracket holding the lines and the bracket bent but the lines are mint. Would love an aluminum pan but could prob manage to make a skidplate with the right resources

Correction to my earlier post #6

genuineaudiparts.com does have the part itself the cheapest, but shipping is $60, not $9.50, so total would be $153.00.

im going to get it from Europaparts.com instead, they have it for $120 and I can pick it up since I live close to them, so this comes out cheaper for me (no shipping charges).

I probably could drive around without these things there, but because the fuel line is there and unprotected, I'd rather put them back on just for piece of mind...

I guess the part my friend may be looking for is the piece directly behind the front wheels, with the circular cutouts. Any idea of part number for that?

I believe the part numbers hes looking for are below.

    Left front trim piece: 8E0825201D
    Right front trim piece: 8E0825202D
Circular cap: 8E0803583A (fits left and right)

These would be the trim pieces that house the jack pad behind the front wheels and close to the side skirt.

It's right behind the front 2 wheels. The plastic has a circle cut out in it

Sry I quote everything separately but that's exactly what I need. The right side being the passenger side, correct? And where can I get the hardware on your site?

I lost mine the first winter I had my car. I decided to reverse in the snow and I guess some snow caught the edge of the plastic and tor it off. It was the most horrifing noise i've heard and it ripped the plastic apart. I bought the piece to repair it but never put it back on.

Is there any hardware that goes with this? aside from the plastic itself? Screws and such?

I haven't really noticed a difference without it other then road noise and i guess water noise when you go over a puddle hitting the under part of the car.

Well I found a nice 3 inch rock in there and going over snow it hangs and builds up snow over time. And if that breaks then there goes $155 for a new plastic covering piece
