    Sachs or KYB more stiffer??

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

    I know Sachs are OE replacement struts for Audi's. But I have heard that Sachs are more floaty type and not that stiff compared to KYB's.

    I prefer a comfort ride. Are KYB's too bouncy compared to sachs?? Which one is more better?

    PS: I dont have any palns of getting Bilstein or Koni

    Why ruling out Bilstein and Koni?

    @Seerlah

    Simple reason> No money. Even Sachs are out of my budget (considering $30 more than KYB). I am just trying to get my OE suspension back. No fancy or No lowering :)

    I think the KYB's would be the more aggressive of the 2, as far as ride quality.

    lol @ "more better". Also, I think you are getting a heck of a deal on the KYB's and should go with those pretty much regardless.

    I have stock sport struts for Quattro I can sell you for cheap, but shipping might get the better end of you.

    Researched a LOT and decided to change my decision.

    I am going to get BILSTEIN shocks. And I found this set in ECS;

    http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...Shocks/ES1145/

    Are these the best ones among Bilstein? My car is 98 Audi A4 1.8t with Non-Sport suspension. Also, can I install this on stock springs?

    Wow, that is quite overkill for stock springs. The bilsteins are not the smoothest choice for a daily driver. They have quite an aggressive, sporty feel. They are really tuned for "sport" lowering springs more than anything. Probably not the best fit for stock springs. If you're going to all the trouble, you might as well spend the extra $200 and get some sport springs to finish the package. But it would certainly work and feel free to do what you want by all means.

    If you're staying with stock springs, that is what the oem replacement shock choices are for (kyb, sachs, boge, bilstein touring, etc). Good Luck.

    @ Walky-Talky

    I would like to keep the stock springs or a stock replacement springs. So I probably wont get the Bilstein HD's.

    So I am thinking of getting Bilstein OEM replacement shocks.

    Will this Bilstein OE replacemnt shocks( Non- sport and Non-HD) are more stiffer compared to KYB GR2?

    I prefer a smoother ride, but not that plush feeling of OEM Boge ones. I need a medium stiff and smooth drive.

    I think you will be happy with the price and performance benefits of the KYB's. They give quite nice control for an OE replacement and it seems you are able to get a very good price on them. While I haven't ridden in a B5 with KYB's specifically, we use those GR-2's quite a bit at the shop for Toyota's and Honda's and they perform well. Good balance of comfort and control. They aren't "overly" anything in particular. Just a good all-around shock. I'd say they are probably somewhere between the OEM shocks and the OEM sport shocks.

    If you want to go with Bilstein stuff, that's fine. There is a price premium, and that will certainly give better handling, possibly with the result of a more aggressive ride feel. If you want something a little more sporty feeling, that might be perfect. It's up to you. If you aren't after handling I think that is waste of money IMO. If you just want a good fix at a good price, the KYB's are probably what you're after. I don't think there is much else I can say on this. Good Luck with whatever you choose.
