led taillight, a few bulbs are out.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi all, just wondering if anyone has had similar problems. I just bought my 2010 S4 over the weekend and noticed after I brought it home that 3 of the passenger led's in the taillight are completely out. I brought it in and a new taillight is on back order, but they also checked the service records and found that it was just replaced in sept. Makes me wonder if this is a common problem or not?

    Thanks.

I have yet to see any B8 with LED taillights have issue. =\

Yesterday was the first time I saw any Audi with their DRL LED out. It was a Q5 (not wink, obviously). Every LED taillight I see on the road (there are tons in my area), they are perfect.

I think I saw somewhere that someone had the same issue. Don't remember if it was the A4, S4/S5, or S4 section though. Important thing is that they replace it. May want to ask them to look into the cause. It's weird that the car has had the same issue twice.

I remember this as well. I believe it was an A4. He had around 50% of the led's out.
IIRC, his dealer blamed it on his LED license plate lights. So if you have led plate lights, I would swap them back to stock.

EDIT: Found it! It's amazing what 1 second of searching can do

Hmm. that is interesting. Thanks for the link. I do not have anything aftermarket (that I know of, just bought it from an audi dealer). I was kind of wondering though if it was an electrical problem since the service guy said that the taillight was just changed back in sept. of this year.

I noticed this morning with the car engine off, ignition on, in the dark garage, that the MMI screen and lights behind the speedometer seemed to alternate between bright and dim very slowly. I mentioned that to the audi service department, but they didnt seem to think it was a problem. I was going to watch for that again on my way home tonight and see if it actually does it while running too.

One of my LED bulbs also went out. The portion that sits on the trunk pass. side, one of the upper LED's went out. Also, my partner has a B8 S4 and has the same issue. Pass. side LED on the same piece as mine except one of the lower LED's

Almost every Jaguar XF I see on the road has at least one led burned out. They must be having a real problem with that.
I just saw only a couple of minutes ago with only ~20% of the leds still functioning..

Very weird, but the 3 bulbs that I have out are also on the passenger trunk portion of the rear taillight. Not sure if that is just a coincidence or not?

Just wondering if you get a message that tells you the LEDs are out, or do you guys check the LEDs every so often?

Mine only does it when the computer is trying to figure out if it's dark enough outside to turn the lights on at dusk or in deep shade.

At H20 I noticed that the APR S4 had several passenger side taillight led's out whenever the brake was hit.

I had several LEDs go out on my rear taillights. But that was because my trunk was leaking and the lights were getting wet from inside. Turned out after taking it to the dealer 4 times for the issue that the leak was coming from the taillights. The seals were not making good contact and allowing water to get into them from behind and also into the trunk. Make sure there inside of your trunk liner on the lid is not wet after either your next rain or wash.

took my car in for 1st service end of january and they told me they would be replacing tail light seals must be another recall, also asked them to investigate wind noise on drivers door. after tech road tested the car the door mirror seals were replaced apparently there had been problems with them on other cars ,wind noise has now gone.

Does the LED going out trigger a replace bulb light on the dash?

Is that what's going on? I have also seen the display suddenly brighten then get dim again. Doesn't happen often, and come to think of it, it was likely in dusk conditions. Wasn't sure what was causing it but was getting worried I had electrical gremlins (the worst kind!!).

Took it in today for oil change- apparently there is a faulty taillight seal recall- they attribute the led out to that- new taillight on the way :D compliments of Audi.

Hi everybody, I'm having the same problem with my led tail light. I got my a4 imported all the way from the US to Cambodia last year and it's been a while that about 40 percent of tail light led went out. I read the above comment about the free replacement and stuffs but i'm wondering is there anyway that it can been repaired at all?; there's no official audi dealer in where i live.

Replies and advices are really appreciated.

I have not noticed this myself, but I do worry about it all the time. Specifically I worry about the front headlight LED "eye brows" going bad, especially since I vag-com'd them to be at full brightness all the time, and they are also my DRL's...so whenever I'm driving the car, those LEDs are are full brightness. I'm guessing they're rated for a lot more hours than a person would typically spend in the car throughout its service life, though.

I dont think they are designed to be serviced. Try to find someone who's god with electronics to open them up. He may be able to solder in new LED's. Try and get matching ones if you get that far. Other option is to buy them outright.

Reviving an old thread... just saw a few LEDs on my passenger side brake light blinking. Not sure how long this has been going on, but I'm going to take it in for replacement. I'm still under warranty fortunately. Just thought I'd share this odd issue.

The same thing happened to me with the first 2010 S4 I picked up. I'm not sure if it came that way from the dealer or it happened during the two days I had the car in my possession. Either way, I took the car back....it was missing too many features and the busted taillight just rubbed me the wrong way. Like many of you, I have NEVER seen a B8 S4/A4 with a taillight LED out, so it seemed pretty weird.

I have an A4 B8 (2010) with one little led out on the passenger outer tail light. I believe it's been replaced before. Since I'm still under CPO warranty, I'm gonna see if they'll replace it, but do you think they'll give me the old tail light back if I ask for it? Or does anything replaced under warranty become their property?

Edit. The answer is no. The dealer must send the faulty part back.

I've had this issue 3 times now with the inner trunk light. Twice on the driver's side and once on the passenger's side. It's out of warranty and I've been replacing the whole housing. It's more common than people think just not on all cars. It's irritating as hell.

I'm under CPO warranty still but was told they'd have to test to see if the module needed replacement or the entire housing. They said the entire housing would be covered, but not the module. Whats been your experience?

Where's the module located? I'll probably need to replace that as well. I've never gone to the dealer with my issue, and have replaced these out of my own pocket. I buy used lamps, as they're much more cost effective and if you make sure that the leds all work then you're good to go. I end up spending about $75 per housing I buy each time, which isn't bad considering they're well over $300 new. I guess I'll just have to keep living with this cycle until there's a solution found. 3 tail lights in 4 years is not good, but not horrible once I came to terms with it going to happen more often than none.

I don't know where the module would be located. Can you PM me where you get them for $75? I'd rather go that route, than pay $85 for the CPO warranty fee.

Same here, there is a known issue with the rear lights and a bad moisture seal (mainly on those part of the trunk lid, not the outer ones), and the moisture getting into the light assembly making the LED's die. They replaced mine no questions under a known TSB.

Anyone know the TSB for this? I happen to know that the seal is bad on that tail light, so it could very well be it.

I have 2 LED's out on my 2010. The top and bottom, left most lights on the inner driver side tail light. Been that way for years now.

Link to TSB? I wouldn't mind having mine fixed.
