Guys, checked the fuse it's ok.
I'm thinking it's the outlet or a wiring issue.
    Thoughts.

Check it with a multi meter. I really doubt it's the wiring. The wiring is pretty hefty as well as the connector, and there is nothing down there for it to get snagged on.

which one are you having trouble with? The one in the ash tray or the one under the armrest/handbrake? My buddy's b7 A4 just lost the port under the armrest, do you guys know which fuse it ties into? He had a coin fall in there he said so i imagine it blew a fuse somewhere.

    cheers

Mine is the one behind the shifter that you push on to spring up.

How exactly did you check your fuse?
I still think it's related to a fuse than anything else.

Guys I have this same issue but my cigarette lighter fuse is not blown. My front ash tray lighter does not work but the rear one behind the cup holders does. One fuse for both lighters?

They have separate fuses (not sure what the cupholder one is tied in with though). Mine was just like yours - ashtray didn't work, cupholder did. My fuse was definitely blown though - simple fix.

ya it totally seems like thats the problem with mine as well. But without pulling every fuse out and checking i feel like i cant be sure. Like I said I looked up what number the cig lighter fuse was and it wasnt blown. nothing else on the fuse list looked like it was tied to the front cig lighter

Dunno man. Mine was definitely blown. But then again I also have a buttload of pennies jammed behind the ashtray thanks to the PO. And I can't find my stupid radio keys to get them out. I was wondering if a penny had shorted something out. Just a thought...

basically what happened to me was that i had kept a st. christopher medal my mother gave me in the ash tray. one day it feel into the cig lighter and when i tried to plug in my radar detector, it obviously didnt work. once i got the medal out, it still didnt work. It seems to me that this story screams of a blown fuse yet i dont see one. nothing seems broken within the lighter either.

Hi, I have a 06 a4 cabriolet with the exact same problem. All my cig lighters work except the one under the climate control. I pretty sure it just has a blown fuse. Check the cigar lighter fuse already and it still in it best condition. Obviously, this lighter doesn't share the same fuse. Where did you find the fuse for the lighter under the climate control? Please help.

When u open your drivers side door, theres a panel at the end of the dashboard you have to almost pry open. You can check a fuse chart in your manual. I'm pretty sure it's a 20 amp fuse (yellow).

Did you read two posts above yours? Did you check the fuse named "front electrical outlet"?

I've got a B7 A4 with the armrest outlet not working. Same deal here: dime fell into outlet while empty. I've checked all the fuses and they're all good. The light around the outlet still lights up. Bought a new iTrip thinking that was the problem but still nothing. Any thoughts on this here problem? Thanks!

You sure you checked the "Electrical Socket Front" fuse and not the "Cigarette Lighter" fuse? Even if you did, try replacing it. These fuses are really cheap.

As for the light, it's a different circuit than the lighter itself so it means nothing. The light comes on and off with the headlights whereas the cigarette lighters are always "ON".

    Bumping an old thread....

My cigarette outlet is messed up, and who knows how it happened. Its been dead for a year or two now, so I can't charge my phone.

I recently went to check it again and of course found the fuse blown, so I replaced it. I used the lighter to test it and as soon as I pressed the lighter in, I heard the fuse POP! I replaced the fuse again and the next one blew soon as I tested it again. I did this once more then started trying higher amp fuses. I believe the fuse is a 10 amp, so I tested and blew a 15amp, 20 amp, 25 amp, and the 30 or 40 amp didn't blow (at least not right away) but it also did not make the outlet work.

Any ideas where the line could be shorting out? It seems like that has to be the issue.

God damn. Don't keep putting higher rated fuses in, you'll burn your car down to the ground!

Now there's 3 things that could be fucked. Your lighter socket, the thing you're jamming into it, or the wiring. Start with the easiest and work back.

Its a 1-second test, I'm pretty sure the car will be fine.

It was more just a way for me to laugh at the situation since I had some random fuses in the center console and I was curious to see how many I could blow before I found the limit.

Unless I find a spare lighter socket in my pile-o-parts I can't really swap it out. And I've tried several chargers, lighter that I know work. I was asking to see if anyone knew a common spot it could be shorting out at.

    Fixed

I got the socket out to find that there was a tiny piece of metal wedged in the bottom. I'm about 90% sure that the piece of metal came off a Bic Lighter. I always rip off the child safety piece when getting a new lighter and they often shoot in the air when you pry them off. Likely it found its way down in the hole and caused a short the next time I used the socket.
