Costco gas ... Anyone used it for awhile with their S5 ???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Done a search and seen the arguments of TopTier Gas vs. others.
I've also heard from Costco employees that Costco gets their gas from Shell, Chevron, Exxon, and other top tier oil companies ...
After shopping in Costco for years, their steak, meat, fruits, products, grocery are all top-tier high quality products,
and some argue that - so is their gas!

The Costco I shop is relatively new. Some argue that newer gas pumps and tanks hold less water, compared to older gas stations.

That being said, have any of you tried Costco gas on your S5? We have 93 Octane here. Some would argue that 93 Octane is 93 Octane, but that Shell or Chevron has better detergent.

I just got the Amex Costco card that rebates 3% on gas for any station which I can also use with any Shell station, but Costco always has cheaper gas (in addition to the 3% rebate).

I figures I will save more than $100 a year using Costco gas vs Shell. So, if I save at least $500 in 5 years, I'll just use that money to have my manifold intake cleaned if ever there's carbon build up after my 4 year warranty expires. What do you think ?

Anyway, my office is very near a Shell station, which I always pass by on the way home. And I'm probably gonna try Costco just once to see what happens in terms of performance and MPG. And if gets decent MPG and no pings/hesitation at high speed compared to Shell, hmmm ... I may be open to it.

Funny, I've always heard Costco gas is supplied by BP. But to answer your question on if 93 octane is the same as everywhere else, the answer is yes. But what you're really paying for at Top Tier gas stations is the additives they put inside their 93 octane. In other words Costco has no additives added in its gas.

I also read that Costco claims their gas has cleaning additives and meets the cleaning additive standards required by the government. The argument boils down to -how much additive. Anyway, I'll try them once and see how their gas does performance-wise and MPG-wise. Then, I go back to Shell if I'm not happy. LOL.

The Costco I go to actually has more expensive gas so I go to the Shell near my house. I actually do get better performance with shell than with BP or other brands. I am sold on shell!!! I might try Costco once though. :). Good luck.

I use Costco when I can, Chevron when I can't and Shell if I have too. There is zero difference in how the car runs on either. It is all BS hype!

Hey BlkS5 - Seeing that you had a 6-speed manual before and now a Tipronic S5, do you get better gas mileage on the Tipronic?

I really don't know. I drive the tip like it was a manual most of the time and I have a very heavy foot. Over all, it seems about the same.

+1 Costco gets their gas from ARCO (BP).

EPA has the Automatic transmission higher than the Manual. Of course it gets better gas mileage.

TK: Download "GasBuddy" app on your phone. Its free. People post prices of gas stations nearby (within a block, or u can choose your distance). Hope this helps.

Tried a few gallons of costco once and noticed slight pinging + decreased engine performance / response. All other brands in my area are ok without any pinging. Some may disagree, however I noticed increase performance when I dropped 5 lbs of rotational mass per corner and then again when the full exhaust was installed BUT not when GIAC remap was installed (even tried 100 octane with this tune with no added benefit).

From my experience the best is Cheveron / Shell so i only pump that now.
