^Yeah, Dimcorner helped me w/ my RF bearing this past weekend, and he brought the same kit with him... I couldn't imagine trying to fit our spindles into a press . The only complaint I had with the kit is that the cap-nut had a cheap little plug weld that sheared off after a few turns, so the bolt unscrewed itself once you really start cranking on it. Nothing that a quick bead w/ my mig welder didn't fix, but the nut & bolt really should be cross-drilled w/ a shear pin IMO.

i never used the tool... and was able to press on my press at the garage... issue is being safe with the new bearing and having the proper press pieces... luckily we had a bunch of old audi / vw bearings and races laying around. I was able to press it out, but it took a good amount of force.

problem is a 90 press from HF will probably break while doing the job... i broke the support between my press legs (another handy MIG fix) and it is a lot more heavy duty than the HF... my bearing was seized in there good. just food for thought... craigslist a quality press!

I was charged $48 a hub for pressing in bearings so sounds about right.

I paid 150 to get all 4 pressed on my CQ. Well worth it considering they amount of time i have spent doing it myself with my own press.

Looking at the tool closer, it wont work for the alum uprights as the bearing is bolt in. What i really need to do is remove the hub from the old bearing and push the old hub into the new bearing.

The tool will work to press in the hub too, should work on the bolt ins on the car. Look at the hub press in setup pic I have there.

Where did you guys source your wheel bearings? Is there a kit for all 4? I assume OEM is the way to go.

But how did you remove the hub?

With the tool you don't have to remove the hub. We didn't even use air tools to do BiTurbo's bearing.
I have done mine and his so far with the tool and it's all gravy. Just make sure you have the big socket for the large nut at the end. We ended up renting a set from Pep Boys.

guess im not getting how the tool works, but how do you replace the bearing if you dont remove the hub? the hub is pressed into the bearing.

$45 a side is not bad, but for now much more you can buy a mini shop press and do it yourself then in your off time us it to squish various things around the house (barbie doll heads, spam, coke cans etc).

agreed... the tool link clearly says remove hub? I also think some cars are easy and some not so much... took me literally 4 times to attempt to break my caliper bolts on my front brakes... i'm sure others did not have as nasty of a time.

I know that pressing my hub out of the bearing took TONS of force (breaking my press support on first attempt) and popped like a son of a bitch when it let go...

^Its actually really easy guys. You just use one of the smaller diameter plates on the inside of the bearing and a larger one on the outside that pulls against the spindle, and then the opposite to get it back in (you're tightening the bolt either way). Once you have the tool in hand it's easier to understand.

Ok let me see if I can explain...

    1. Loosen the top of the hub to move aside the axle out of the way. I then just put the top 2 arms and steering column back in place without tightening in order to get leverage and not have the hub just flapping around.

    2. Remove the spindle? (thinggy that the wheel bolts on to) This will more than likely split the bearing apart since the inner race of the bearing will be stuck to the part. Clamp down on table vice, heat race with torch, place claw side of hammer against race, tap head of hammer with another hammer and it will come off really easy.

    3. Place a flat disk from the kit that is smaller than the opening, but still touches the outside of the bearing in the back of the hub. In front you put the large cup looking thing with it's accompanying metal disk. Put the screw thru it and start tightening. This will tighten the back disk and pull it thru the hole along with the bearing.

    4. Press in new bearing. Use a large disk that is larger than the back of the opening of the hub and a disk in the front that is smaller than the opening, but still touches the outside ring of the bearing. You can go safe route (which is what i did) and use 2 larger than hole disks first to press in until it's almost flush, then switch to the smaller than opening/large enough to press outside of bearing plate.

    5. Press spindle in by switching the back plate to one that is larger than INNER metal ring but smaller than the outer ring on the back. Front you can use any size larger than the opening.

    6. Done.

I have some pics if you want to see.
