    Engine Speed Sensor (Code P0322)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, been having some troubles starting the S4 lately and have gotten a P0322 code. I'm guessing I need a new engine speed sensor and have searched and haven't come up with much. On the transmission bellhousing? What does it look like? How do you get to it?

Anybody who's done this repair before, how much did the sensor run?

    Thanks in advance.

    Ben

    It looks like this:

It is a pain to get to but I replace them with everything in place and I have seen guys pull the left/driver's side catalytic converter to get more room. It should be either a 5 allen or T30 bolt holding it in place depending on what Audi put in there.

Holy cow that looks like a bitch to get to. Did you go through the top or from underneath?

You disconnect the connector from the top and then take the sensor out from the bottom. Start practicing bending your arms multiple different ways because you have to get past the subframe, the left front axle, the heat shield for the axle, the catalytic converter, and then with no room get the bolt out for the sensor.

I had found plenty of threads on the B6, but the B7 is a little different. So on my 2007 I went looking for the crank position sensor aka the engine speed sensor aka rpm sensor, and I simply couldn't find it.
Just to make it very clear for the next person, here are some pics: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3mv1nij16eg05k4/cqCGhuK8SN

The grey connector is down by the oil filter (not on the firewall like B6).

You have to feel for the bolt, and do everything by touch. Removing the coolant bottle helps.

I bought an eBay sensor for $12, I should have probably just got a good Bosch unit, but I am cheap... I compared the eBay one to the old (oil covered) one, and they were the same depth etc. The cable was longer, but that doesn't matter. There are many part numbers out there, and they all look similar. I know they look like different sizes in my photos, but they are the same, it's just the angle of the iphone pic.
