zex dry nitrous? good or bad idea

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
hi everyone im really thinking about dropping in dry zex kit i have in my garage. i have 75hp,100hp,125hp jets to spray the nitrous. i was wondering if anyone had any experience with nitrous in their a4 and if it was a good 100hp idea or a shit idea.fuck spraying the intercooler there is no power compared to sparying the itake with this. look i know how it all works but idk if ill melt my turbo down or not and or seize the motor. please help with advice.(ive seen guys put huge turbos in their a4s with stock internals in the engine so what can nos do to harm it ?)

Why not? I have never heard a reason people don't use nitrous on our car. Just fast and furious references. Tell us why not. What's the difference between wet and dry nitrous?

Dry - Nitrous is sprayed in, extra fuel comes via injectors and Ecu.

Wet - Nitrous AND Fuel are shot into the engine (you tap into a fuel line with a "T" splitter). The nitrous nozzle is a "Y" shaped connector where fuel and nitrous are sprayed out of.

I've never used a dry kit myself, I HAVE used NOS wet kit. I was running a 75 shot in a hatchback I had back in the day. Sprayed for over a year and never had 1 problem. You just have to make sure its all wired up right and that you know what your doing. I was all motor though. If you were serious about it, i'd look into a nitrous FMIC kit. Not sure if I would ever go direct port with nitrous in our cars. I think that would be the safer way to go.

I kinda giggle when people mention it too (and the whole F&F references). But, if you know what your doing and do it right. It works. Turned my slow ass hatch into a monster with the flip of a switch.

100 shot dry is bad news. Max I would go dry is 75. Hell I ran a ZEX kit on a cavalier and didn't fuck it up, I am sure the Audi can handle it.

If you setup the kit I would love to see a video of your car in action. I haven't seen anyone setup nitrous on their A4 here.

HID had 100 shot in his CVT and had no issue with what I'm assuming was a stock turbo. His tranny eventually crapped out, I don't recall all the details but I'm sure you can look him up and chase down his threads.

you could run it, i think you should weigh out the cost vs benefit of it before you do tho. running a 100% meth kit will give you the ability to run on a 'race gas' or 100 octane file and that set up would would net you a few ponies for around 400$

i think a nitrous kit all said and done would be around 1400-1500? .....nvm i re-read your post and saw you already had the equipment, i mean you can run it start mild then go more and more agressive until you feel a nice balance between power and oh-my-i-think-my-rods-will-go-snap

nitrous on a forced induction will not see as much of a jump in performance as would a N/A car tho

well, you would be lucky if that one hundred shot of nitrous didn't blow the welds on the intake

then you and the mad scientist would have to rip apart the block....
I think the only safe way to run it is if you get in contact with a really good tuner and get it set up, I read about people using snow w/m on their 1/335i motors with nitrous with great results.

Wet shot 75 with water meth and revo 2+ would work. Also need full exhaust and hpfp. We did it a few years ago. Made 365 at the front wheels. You'll also need a clutch if its manual. Too much torque.

Don't you know, you aren't allowed to think outside the block on this forum. If you try to step out and do something different, you'll just be clowned on with FF references.

this is too true, I'd love to see some1 put some nitrous down and see what it can do. I don't know much about it but I'd love to learn.

Ya I would love to see somebody blow up their engine so I could find out how much a replacement would cost LOL.

My reasoning for not liking nitrous is when a fuel pill clogs/fails and you are shooting straight nitrous your engine goes BOOM. I am speaking from personal experience, nitrous is a quick/ easy shortcut to power. Not a long term option.

But you make this comment, as if every person that's done NOS has blown up their engine. If he takes his car to a knowledgeable shop for the install, and is smart with it's use and up-keep, why not give it a try. I understand you had a negative experience, but that doesn't mean everyone that uses it will. I personally would not use NOS on my car, but I'm not going to deter someone that might try, as long as he/she knows to be responsible with the mod.

I said a lot, not all. You didn't just throw up some stupid picture or sheepishly one liner after someone else, you made a statement. FF was a terrible mistake, they shoulda never let that "franchise" jump off. Though it is kind of a tradition that I watch every single one in the theater, always a good laugh.

    Haha, but seriously.

At one point when w/m was mentioned on these forums the same F/F references were made. Personally when I brought up my w/m kit to my car buddies they acted as though I instantly signed away my motor. It's as if a few people have bad experiences with a product, instantly everyone will/must experience same issue. But the truth is that most people who do w/m or NOS, do it wrong. My friends scoffed when I told them I spent a couple hundred on my meth kit- "I have a friend who built his own for 40$ haha!" and "why didn't you just make your own from eBay stuff?" ....
Most ppl who blow up their motor with NOS try to go to big, to fast. In truth if your going to do NOS than you should at least have head studs, then if you want bigger than a 75-100 shot, than a built motor is probably a wise thing. Supporting mods don't hurt either. And in the end you will have to consider your tuning and getting the appropriate monitoring software.
Personally I've never been a big fan of NOS, because you can do it wrong and still have a fast car for a few minutes. But in re end your car was never actually "that fast"... It's kinda like putting your car in the cargo hold of a space shuttle, and claiming you can do 0-17500mph in 120sec because that's what the shuttle helped your car achieve...
Good luck op, just do it right and keep us updated

^^ what this cracker said.....its all in execution....

personally i would not touch nitrous until i was done with my factory warranty, i know that even when done correctly and if it never fails or gives you a single problem in its lifes, one thing it will always do, is void your warranty

One other upside to NOS is that you may have your valves cleaned for you.

Seriously though, it you have the parts then good luck to you! I know we'd all love to see & hear about your successes!

exactly. this is actually why i brought up the "will your car hydrolock if you get fuel cut/bounce off of the rev limiter" in the water/meth thread a little while back.

if you don't have a proper nitrous monitoring kit, and if you hit fuel cut, you will get straight nitrous in your engine, things will go boom. a lot of people who go from stock to a giant nitrous kit don't realize how quickly your rpms will climb, and thus hitting your rev limiter (and cutting fuel) isn't an uncommon occurrance.
