    Rebadging rear 4 rings...What adhesive/glue?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey All,

I took my rear 4 rings off to paint them gloss black, but only had 3M puffy double sided to do a temporary re-install. Obviously I'd like to do a flush re-install just like OEM. Does anyone know an appropriate OEM adhesive substitute at the thinness (all 3 directions x, y, z) that is similar to the OEM & easy to purchase? (I did search).

Tough to find something that thin, 3M does have some thin tape but, honest I usually just buy new rings. That 3M tape can be pricey.

I bought 3M emblem adhesive from eBay

Though I've read mixed results on the stuff ruining the paint beneath...nothing yet, *knock on wood*

DO NOT use glue. I used 3m double sided automotive tape and it is extremely strong and my emblem has held on ever since I plastipped it.

I'm going to try to pick some up tonight...I'm just concerned about finding the super flat/thin stuff. My rings currently stand off at least 1/8" or more. Not cool.

Don't take life too seriously. As others have said, 3M automotive tape will do the trick. I know I've seen thin rolls specifically for badges.

I haven't done anything new since my last set of pictures, but have a couple things in the works that I'll share once complete. Now go stick your damn rings back on and quit playing around on my internet.

The worst part is when you first starting to scroll down the picture, the orange cap is so misleading.

Yeah, but if you are going to drink the whole bottle you should at least eat the orange cap, like this guy...

Been using the 3M stuff for a while. Most is .030" (1/32") thick off the shelf. They also have .045" and .062" thick tapes, harder to find.
If you properly prep/clean your surfaces, your badges will adhere forever with 3M tape.

Sounds like there is also 0.015 stuff, if this is the same tape : 3M™ Pressure Sensitive Acrylic Foam Tape 4257, Gray, 15 mil
No idea on how hard that is to find..., but it's on the 3M site.

Asked my body shop earlier this year about the 0.015" tape - his distributer couldn't obtain.
Having replaced my rear rings recently (new ones painted Quartz Grey) and seeing the backside of the originals, I would say the 0.030" or 0.045" 3M tape should work well.

I was able to find some 0.030" 3M tape on Amazon that I ordered. Rings are gonig back on tonight - just in gloss black. I think Greg and I are creating anti-images of each other's car.
