Got around to installing my franken recently and a few other things. Ive included a video of the initial test drive but there is a lot of wind noise. Go pro was mounted under the bumper and using the open back cover. In the vid you can somewhat hear the turbo spool and you can also watch me dodge dips in the road which was not very fun.

    Problems I ran into

    Turbo bracket bolt(stripped)

    Fan clutch pulley(stripped)

Fan clutch sawzalled off, bolt drilled out

Found my pcv breather hose was damaged

    Installed
    EFK

    Fan Controller
    High flow manifold

    Franken turbo

    Shorter belt and clearance

    mocal thermo

    Oil cooler

    034 Breather block

    Catch can

If you are installing a oil cooler the part number for the shorter fitting is 059115721

Video of test drive. recorded with go pro hero, 720p, crappy sorry

Mods are stock aeb, franken turbo, forge 007, porsche bbk, 300mm rear s4, ebay intercooler, atp 3 inch tp. labree downpipe, vibrant 1762 resonator, magnaflow 14815 2.5" fronm tp back. Also vehicle is on revo stage 1 ko3 tune atm.

What was your first impression? Did you feel a big difference or does it feel the same?

I'v really been on the fence between this and the GT28RS. I understand their in completely different classes, but this is much more cost effective. Idk, damn decisions.

I don't feel a big difference, probably because I'm on a ko3 tune. It does pull more smooth versus with the ko3 it would kick in abruptly.

Nice to see another Franken A4. I love mine, just cant wait to upgrade my clutch and tune to a specific Franken Tune. How was the electric fan job? Ive been playing with the idea of doing so, but dont know any good kits/fan size to go with.

The efk was not bad at all. If the bolt didn't strip I'd say it was a walk in the park. The only thing was wiring it was a little time consuming. I'm running a 14" spal fan 30100385.

What stripped on the clutch-fan? Did the 8mm allen round out?

Ooh, gotcha. I think mine was getting a bit loose last time on the allen drive. Maybe I should replace it next time I'm in there. At $2, it probably isn't a bad idea:

Dude, give you engine bay a good clean. Truck wash with caustic soda will help get rid of some of the oxidized aluminium. Just let it soak over night.
Are you worried about running lean with that tune?

Contact Mark Malone at Malone Tuning, he does custom tunes for FrankenTurbos. He is a tad pricey, but his tunes are always spot on from what I've heard. Also, prior to the tune, get bigger injectors. He told me he can do a tune for a Franken with 500CC injectors and it runs quite nicely.

Nice install. When removing the mech fan, did you leave the pulley on there? The kit I used with Supreme Power parts gave me a new pulley so I could run an OE belt. What belt did you end up using? My kit puts a huge load on the alternator, Isee on a rainy night when I need the AC my voltage gauge is only about 13v at idle, pretty heavy.

The efk will reduce load on the engine, less rotational mass with it removed. My fan is wired to a 12v switched source with a rocker switch and fan controller. So only when the car is on the fan controller will kick it on at the preset temp or I can flip a switch. I could wire to direct power to use when the car is off also.

440 CC would be big enough given that Franken isn't a very big turbo, but Malone told me he likes the way the 550's run better. I've heard great things about these

Those are not for AEB motors. The closest we have to a 440cc for the AEB is a 415cc, we have a 630cc and then a 750cc

If you are planning on going with Mark you need to read this thread http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...t=frankenturbo. He has changed his price on the tunes to 1400$ and don't expect to get a tune anytime soon.

No. I going to go with Motoza he has tuned multiple frankenturbo'd cars with great success. There was a thread on vortex that I can't find anymore but he tuned a car that was making more power than a uni tuned car but the catch was that Motoza was at a higher altitude and the uni car was running meth. So it seems his tunes are very good and he only charges 489$ I believe but he is also alittle backed up do to releasing a new interface. Here is his website tho. http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source...lNPaAQ&cad=rja

That just gets you the turbo and nothing else. So at that point you would have a $1400 door stop till you bought the rest of the supporting mods to run it in the car.

Not for AEB motors or just not for use with stock AEB IM and stock fuel rail?

If the problem is that they are only 48mm O-ring to O-ring injectors a billet adapter would make them 60mm. Basically the same thing that ID does with their injectors seeing they use nothing but 48mm injectors and include a billet adapter.

yes but what did he pay for the FT? so basically for 2600.00 he would have the FT setup and a tune right?
so at 1500.00 for the elim, plus the 300.00 mani -300.00 inlet upgrade and 900.00 for a uni tune wouldn’t that make more sense? at 3K vs 2600
I have to say I had great hopes for this kit (I had a sk04 hybrid on a vw and loved it!)but I am a bit disappointed as I thought the FT would bridge the gap between the elim and regular k04.....kinda sux that is only a 400.00 difference at the end of the day.
somebody making a 500.00 tune for the FT would make it a heck of alot more palatable?

$1400 for a tune is a f*cking joke. B5 S4 guys pay just a tad but more (couple hundred, and I really only mean a couple. like $200) more for their Stg 3 tunes, but you get more than just a tune:

    Copied from Vast
    Includes:

    VAST Custom Stage 3 Tune

    Bosch EV14 Injectors

VAST 90mm Aluminum Elbow (4") with integrated MAF housing with Bosch or Hitachi Boss

AEM Dry Flow Open Element Filter (4") w/ Silicone Coupler Hosing to factory Y-pipe.

Bosch Platin Side fire spark plugs.

OEM Green coolant sensor w/ etc.

OEM N75 valve / MBC -Depends on which option you would like.

Check valve cap & tie (2001.5-2002 only)

GT28RS Elim kit is $2800, and it pretty much includes everything you need other than exhaust mani and FMIC. A good FMIC can be made for fairly cheap. And that kit includes a tune. The GT is $1200, and that includes the exhaust mani. However, with a $1400 dollar tune, that puts it at right around $2600. I'd rather just go with the Elim kit.

so at 1500.00 for the elim, plus the 300.00 mani -300.00 inlet upgrade and 900.00 for a uni tune ... I am a bit disappointed as I thought the FT would bridge the gap between the elim and regular k04.....kinda sux that is only a 400.00 difference at the end of the day.
Malone's $1400 tuning price is for any "big turbo", whether that be a GTRS or FT. If that price is too high, there are other, less expensive tuning options for them both. In fact, Malone is exceptional in the way they lump hybrid turbos in with bigger products from Garrett, ATP, etc. Most tuners will offer hybrid tuning software for around the price of a basic Stage 2 flash. When you consider that, the costs to go "big turbo" become quite a bit higher.

Eurodyne for AEB is 899 + 40 for MAF adapter. You get to run a V8 Audi MAF..which doesnt' max out at under 300 hp. And it will support any injector you can imagine.

    Just saying.

Is there any maestro files that would work? I would think a GT2x would be pretty close. And then you would have options down the road.

The reason Mark raised his price is because he took on tuning to many peoples cars so he raised the price to deter people. but it is 1400$ until further notice however I believe once he gets it all under control he will lower his price once again. However I would recommend going with 440cc injectors, CBTuning has them for a reasonable price not sure if they will fit a AEB tho, but I know United Motorsports has a tune for 440cc and Uni has a 380cc file.
