    Can You Identify this hose?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I discovered this hose leak after poor acceleration and rough idle. 1997 Audi A4 1.8 Quattro. I cant locate a part number, but it's the elbow hose that I've highlighted between the manifold and a "Y" shaped hose. I need to order this part ASAP, but I don't want to remove it to get a part number, and not have one on hand in case I damage it. I appreciate any help! I can't get my photos to post when I submit, not sure why. I've added the pics to my photo album in my profile in the meantime. Thanks!

I really need a pic to be sure, but I think this is what you need:

It is the "large" 90 degree hose at the rear of the intake on an Automatic 1.8T (AEB). This would connect directly between the manifold and the large, 3-ribbed connection of the "suction jet pump", which is this guy:

    ^Yep, that's the one. Part# 079-133-784-J

I would suggest you replace (or at least check the flow of) Suction Jet Pump as well. It should flow freely in both direction between the large port with that rotted hose on the end, and the small port that juts out the bottom at an angle. If that passage is plugged up, you need to replace it.

I would also suggest you take a flashlight and check the PCV piping by shining the light through the intake manifold runners. You should find your PCV breather system there. This is what it should look like:

    New and shiny:

    Old and Busted:

Those photos are obviously with the intake manifold removed, but you should be able to see the condition of the stuff, especially that oddly shaped plastic pipe that likes to crack and break into several pieces. Look closely to see if it is busted apart or cracked wide open anywhere.

Yep, it's the little guy, the "L" shaped 28.00 vacuum hose. Funny how the more complex suction pump cost half as much.. Thank you guys so much for the help!!! You saved me time and money, thanks a million!

Also, any advice on the average size clamps I should stock up on for hose replacement??? These are not cheap so your help is appreciated.

The final clamping diameter of that hose is approximately 19mm for both sides. So I would recommend a using a high quality worm-gear clamp with a smooth inner diameter and rolled edges, which covers that diameter.

This would fit the bill perfectly:
    http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...s/Hose/ES2930/

At the shop, we are able to get the OEM "GEMI" style clamps in every size, which look like this:
    http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...s/Hose/ES2939/
For some reason ECS no longer carries that style in the 16-25mm size, but that is my favorite style of clamp to use on my Audi. It looks perfectly OEM and is gentle on the hoses, while still being the easy to use worm-gear type.
Looks like they have a 16-28mm in the Genuine Audi variety, though:
    http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/N90561801/
Or in the slightly smaller 12-22mm size (which is probably a better fit for the hose in question):
    http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/N10258201/ES467797/

Do note that you already have 1 screw clamp existing on that hose right now, so I think you only need 1 more screw clamp if all you replace is the 90. If you plan to replace more, and want any more sizing info - feel free to ask.

Man, if I could by you a beer I would! Thanks much! I do plan on replacing the suction pump, while I'm at it. Clamp sizing for that?

For the suction jet pump, you'd have 2 additional clamps.

1 - The opposite end, the large "flared" end that goes to the "h" looking 3-way hose would be a 24mm diameter, so a 16-25mm clamp would be perfect.
2 - The angled connection which goes down to the PCV bleeder valve is approximately 19mm. Audi recommends using the 12-22mm worm-gear clamp for replacement.
