Does my car have a dual clutch gear box?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently bought an 06 A4 2.0T and when I switch it to tiptronic, it has seven gears so I wanted to know whether the automatic gear box was a DCT or not? I bought it pre-owned and i just wanna know before I do some tuning around.

Are you fwd? If so that means you have cvt... If quattro you have a actual 6 speed gearbox...

They are cvt which has virtually infinite amount of gears. but when you put it in manual its 7 set ratios .

CVT has an infinite amount of ratios, not gears, within a range. When shifting manually, the gears are simulated.

CVT is well known for it's horrendous reliability and astronomical cost to fix. Good luck

    IMHO
    CVT > Tip

More efficient, faster "shifts", and B7 CVT reliability is yet to be fully determined, but unfortunately

    FWD < Quattro

So in the final analysis, yeah, CVT isn't the best. DSG is the ticket though. Audi needs to hurry up and phase CVT/Tip out completely and go all DSG for autos.

    Tip > CVT

CVT is being widely removed from all new car models across all brands, due to it's terrible reliability and expensive repair. I believe that all new Audi autos are DSG.

Nothing wrong with MY CVT as of yet. Yeah it might act goofy and jumpy at times but it's working fine.

Ditto here. I have a 2006 CVT with 60k and a 2008 CVT with 27k. Admittedly not high mileage yet, and they both may start spewing blue fire tomorrow, but so far so good. My mechanic says he hasn't seen too many issues with the B7 CVT's yet. Not conclusive obviously, but a good sign.

Nope. Don't build many FrontTrak A6's online.

CVT is being removed from future models. It obviously takes time to engineer replacements, so you should see the change in a few model years. I'd recommend staying away from CVT in the interim if you could though.

i've been driving it for about 17k miles now, putting the total milage at 65k. no problem yet. As long as it doesn't bend me over, we good.
