Will 225/45/17 tires work on 17x7.5 wheels (A4/B7)?

Anyone running 225/45/17 winter tires instead of 235/45/17?

Tirerack recommends either 235/45/17 or 215/55-16, but nothing in between.

I am running 235/45/17 summers on 17x7.5 (A4 S2.0T/2007) but have an opportunity of getting a great deal on some Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 (225/45/17). What about load index (min = 91?)

Also, there are more choices in 225 sizes for winters

    Thx

Sure, they will fit.. However, the 225/45/17's are a smaller diameter than the 235/45/17's.

The overall diameter is going to be a tad smaller but they should fit.

if you read any info on snow tire sizing you will know smaller narrower tires are BEST!!! fitting the smallest tire +wheel that clears brakes etc and is as close to original diameter will also be cheaper, i have used the mich alpins, great tire in snow fine in rain not bad dry and wears well!!
