For those who enabled Ambient Lighting

Can someone who enabled the ambiance lighting enlighten me on exactly what it does? I read the FAQ here http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagComINLight.html but I didn't completely understand. It appears that at night when driving you can have the footwell lighting on, but then in that FAQ it says " Master light switch will not control these lights at all anymore. They will work separately through the MMI. " What exactly does that mean? When I am in my car at night or during the day if I want to turn the light switch on in the front, it will no longer work?

it keeps the footwell lights on continually. You control brightness through the MMI. That is the only way to, in a sense, shut them on/off

No, your light switch up top will still control the dome lights

The ambient lighting turns on the footwell lights very slightly. You cannot see it at all during the day. I have mine set to full brightness and it gives a nice effect in the floor area. It doesn't affect the dome lights at all.

From factory when you use the master light switch in the overhead console it will turn the lights on. Once Ambient lighting is active the master switch will no longer control those lights. They are controlled through the car menu on the MMI screen.

The headlight switch will actually play a small part in their operation. If you have Auto headlights they will turn the Ambient lighting on and off based on lighting levels, the same as your headlights. Brightness is controlled through the MMI. If you don't have Auto lights they are on all the time. Being that they are LED they should outlive the car even on all the time.

The only time you loose all control of the lights is when you open the car door. They will go to full brightness as you would expect. As soon as you close the door they will dim back down to what ever light level you have them set for.

I love the ambient lighting, it's such an elegant touch to the car.

I had a funny thing happen the other night - I was driving home and I glanced down and got confused for a second and thoght WTF, why are the footwell lights on, then remembered I set them. Even on Full Brightness, they're not that bright at all - it's more like a glow, but it's that elegant blue/white light and it does add such a classy feel to the car.

They are not running at 100% as ambient lights even if you have the background lighting option set to max. They only power up to 100% when you open the door.
Try it out - set the background lighting control to 100% and open your door, you will see their brightness will increase.

I've done that and nothing! It's exactly the same. Wonder what's up with my lights? Are your lights very bright when you open the door - the under seat lights in the back and front foot-well lights? Mine never have been, almost worthless in my opinion.

Ambient Lighting is grayed out in my car menu?

Once enabled through the hidden menu (both carmenuoperation - interior light - set to 5; and cardevicelist - interior light - enable) and reset the MMI (3G with Nav), still not able to set in car menu. Ambient lighting is there, but it is grayed out? I got these instructions from the AZ VCDS & Hidden Menu: The complete list (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-complete-list). I noticed on DavidB8's Audienthusiasts site that needed to manually enter something after I had already set it the way in the AZ post. I am not sure how to manually edit a bit, but it seems like this may be why "Ambient Lighting" is grayed out. Anyone who has it enabled able to help?

Thanks all! Been here about a couple weeks and still learning it all - searched around ahead of time and thought this would be the best thread to expand on...thanks!

    Guys...this might help.

Go to Byte 16 and Then Bit 6...You have to count the positions of the digits and start with the number 0. And count from right to left...NOT left to right.

Hypothetical example with 10 digits all with a 0.

    0000000000

Count right to left starting with the number zero...example...0,1,2,3,4,5,6--this digit should be changed to a 1 (remember...right to left).

    ie...

    0001000000

Once you save this change you can reboot the MMI and it should work.

Let me know if that helps. I can almost guarantee this will get your Ambient Lighting working for you.
