If the car is going to be outside with the car cover on it I would advise you not to buy a cover. The cover slides across the car's finish ruining the paint and clear coat. You are best off leaving the car to deal with mother nature.

Not if you have a nice coat of wax/polish. I've owned the Audi one for my old B6 S4 and it was pretty nice. I haven't seen a Audi version of the outside cover for the A5/S5 yet.

Even if you have a good coat of wax on the car the abrasive material that the cover is made of will still scratch the finish

Have you ever owned a exterior car cover? The Audi one was as soft as most any wash mitt. You need to take it off in a certain way also.

I have not owned a car cover because I would never put one on my car. However, I do own my own detailing business and people come to me who have car covers on their cars because they have clear coat scratches.

Btw even something as soft as a wash mitt or a microfiber towel will still cause scratches.

It is your car and as you know you are free to do or buy as you please. I was just trying to give you a heads up before you purchase one.

I own a body business for the last 18 years. Most people don't know how to wash there cars, much less put on/remove a car cover. An interior one is a little different.
