Why am I getting this? I am trying to run an AutoScan and my VCDS locks up at this test, the only way I can get back to VCDS is to kill the app. I do not have a OEM phone installed in my car, is there a way I can disable this test from AutoScan?

Also, is there a way to test the washer fluid pump through VagCom? I tried to use my pump today and got nothing.

    The Official B7 A4 VAG-COM Modification Walkthrough

I haven’t done an auto scan in ages. You can set scan profiles in some config file. Ross tech has a page on their site somewhere. I made profiles for each of my cars just by doing an initial autoscan, copying the autoscan controller list and eliminating the ones that weren’t present. Speeded up the autoscan by like 4-5 minutes.

As to why it’s hanging at that controller? No idea. Could be a bad config? dodgy laptop USB ports? Hard to know. Honestly sounds more like a hardware/windows config issue than a VCDS issue.

Not sure if it's a port or bad config, but I do know it's the only test it hangs on, every other non-existent component just passes through. Could it be that since my PR came with the phone option that my ECU is coded for it and therefore wants to run the test? I will check with Ross-Tech to see if there is a way to disable the phone test.

Just delete the module number that is hanging from the b7 line in the autoscan.txt file in the Ross tech directory.

Also look at the distributor list on their site to find someone close by your location

    Hi Everyone!

Joining the Audi family as I bought a couple of months ago my first Audi ever.

    It's a 2009 Audi A4 B7 S-Line convertible and I'm a really happy owner.

What prompted me to sign up is because I my ECON button won't turn off anymore. I actually already did some digging and found out that it could be

    - blown fuse
    - Low gas level
    - faulty pressure sensor (g65)
    - leak or part of the AC system broken

In order to pinpoint what's causing the system to go in safe mode I need an ODB2 reader in order to read the system's faults (it could be as simple as a low gas level).

I've read on this forum that you can either buy the more expansive official Ross Tech ODB2 cable to do modifications to the car or buy a cheap generic ODB2 cable that only allows you to read faults.

That's the one I would like as I just need to figure out what exactly is causing the AC system to in safe mode and avoid being ripped off. (also if it's just a low level gas I can get a refill somewhere for cheap)

Would anyone be kind enough to point to the correct cable for my car? If you got an Aliexpress or ebay link that would be really perfect :)

Many thanks in advance. I'll see you around and I'll be posting pictures of my convertible soon :)

A dongle like that would be no good for you. It will only tell you that you have a problem, which you already know that. If you really want to take care of that baby, get a VCDS that can erase codes. The ECON mode means that compressor is off. You could be low on freon and low on pressure. If you add yourself, you need to know how much is already in or you risk to overfill it and blow the compressor. You better save the $ and go to an AC shop and look into problem. If there is a leak, they should be able to find it and problem is solved. Even if you add some and you get it right, you still need to reset fault to work again because it will not go away by itself when problem is removed. So you still need the VCDS and can do any other diagnostic that you will need in the future.

    Hey thanks for your reply.
No I wasn't planning to add freon by myself, I just have a groupon coupon for freon refill but I'm just wary that they will take advantage of the fact that I have the ECON button on to come up with an imaginary problem to charge me extra.
If I know what's the issue (G65 sensor dead, low on freon ..) I can go to the car shop and tell them exactly what I need to get done on the car.

So ultimately I won't need to reset the fault myself either. I just need to know what the error the system is returning.

Would one of these dongles give me a fault code?

EDIT: What about that one? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OBD2-OBD...9/173263000341

Tried the 0023259 for the seatbelt chime..... That number in there you see was what was in there already. Got the Euro headlight and remote windows w/ one click unlock to work but the seat belt chime is laughing at me.

From this chart I read +1 for smaller fuel tank (Quattro) , + 16 for clutch switch in fis display so
0017 then 3 for Canada 0 for no seatbelt warning and 1 for standard for option 2 ending up with

    0017301 .... But no bueno!

@Nipperdog - needle sweep functionality doesn't exist for the B7; think it's B8 and newer only.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to turn off the rain sensor and just have regular intermittent wipers with VCDS?

It doesn’t matter what time of day, how clean my windshield is or how hard it’s raining. My auto wipers come on whenever they feel like it and it’s been that way since I’ve owned it. It was real close to punching my rear view today. 🤣🤣

    Can't stand this 'feature' either.

Pretty sure VCDS coding is not an option, but you might be able to minimize or find a work around. Perhaps looking into disabling / covering the rain sensor gel pad... maybe vinyl wrap or something?

You could replace the gel pad. I did that a while back and it helped reduce the random wiper behavior. It didn’t fix it completely though.

What did fix it was getting my windshield replaced. Mine had tons of putting and acid damage (or something) that played havoc with that sensor. Ever since I got a new piece of glass the sensor has worked perfectly. My insurance covers replacement for the deductible as long as you have a crack longer than 6” (which I did) so it was low cost to me.

But I do believe there is a way to toggle between rain sensing and basic delay-based wiping. My b6 had the same stalk but was delay based (B6s never had rain sensing).

B8’s can toggle between rain sensing and standard type intermittent modes through MMI. As far as I know there’s no end user way to toggle for us. I was hoping there was VCDS coding but it looks like I’m SOL.

The arm has to be one position up, and the little flip switch on the top of the arm all the way to one side for my sensor to take effect. If the small such isn't in that position the interval is timed regardless of the sensor.

    The Official B7 A4 VAG-COM Modification Walkthrough

What switch are you talking about? There are 4 stalk settings:
    Fast
    Slow
    Auto/Rain-Sensing
    Off
    Momentary wipe

The small dial has 3 positions to control the rain sensing sensitivity. There is no switch on top.

My b6 was identical, except it had “dumb” delay-based wiping instead of the rain sensing position and the dial controlled the delay timer.

EA: have you looked though? it might not be a simple coding change but at the very least the electronics are going to have some sort of provision for a fallback setting when the rain sensor is disconnected or malfunctioning (or simply not equipped as would be common in Europe). I would be shocked if there’s not a way to code it back to delay based.

Dial, switch, what ever. Maybe it is the quality of glass, my windshield isn't that old and I've no issues with the sensor.

    The Official B7 A4 VAG-COM Modification Walkthrough

The glass clarity makes a big difference. My glass was in VERY poor shape. It had this awful acid rain etching (or something) that made even brand new wipers smear, it was like really bad water spots that wouldn’t come out. And the pitting was so bad it seemed like the previous owner used the car as a rally car on gravel stages only. I tried glass polish treatments, Nano-coatings, etc, but nothing really helped that much. A new gel pad helped quite a bit but it still wasn’t nearly as accurate as my q5 and had its occasional periods where it would wipe super slow in a downpour or hyper-fast when it wasn’t even raining. New glass (and presumably another new gel pad) and it basically works perfectly now.

Though I’ll admit the only reason I got new glass was because I got a huge rock chip on a euro drive 2 years back and the resulting crack was huge and spreading all the way across the windshield by the next week so I just bit the bullet. Up until then I’d just sorta resigned myself to them being sorta wonky rain sensors. I wasn’t expecting the new glass to solve that issue but evidently it did.

As with nearly every fucking thing that is wrong with my car, it was like that when I bought it and 100% due to the previous owner being a fucking baboon.

Also, you can just unplug the rain sensor. It’s pretty simple to access, just pull the rear view mirror and it’s under there.

Can someone please help me out

I've entered 11884 just like the vg com walk through state.
    And I've tried 11886

Made the mistake of not writing down the old code

    my adaptation is at 95

I'm using OBDeleven by the way.

I've done this mod on 5 other Audi's so I'm at a lost here.

HI bck in the first few post KRISTOKES mentioned the following

    Euro Headlights & DRL
Module 09 (Central Electrical), recode to ###XY, where:

    X = DRL
    0 – Halogen without DRL
    1 – Halogen with DRL
    2 – Bi-Xenon with DRL
    3 – Bi-Xenon without DRL
    4 – Bi-Xenon with DRL / tail light / license plate light

Can someone explain 4 over 2.

    Thanks

Maybe 4 is keeping the license plate light on and the rear brake running lights on as a DRL? You could try both and test.

@nij_tp - Option 4 is more like the B6 behaviour except not using foglights
    • front halogen bulbs are DRL (ones towards middle of car), city light is OFF
    • rear tail lights are always on, brake light portion glows brighter when brakes are applied
    • headlights on, DRL is OFF, city light is ON

    Option 2
    • front halogen bulbs are DRL, city light (small bulb) is OFF
    • headlights on, DRL is OFF, city light is ON

    Option 3 - no DRL
