HI AZ members,
I ran into an unexpected situation today and I wondered how others would react in a similar situation.
Here's the story begins.
Today, I parked my car (B8 A4) on a street in NYC and when I came back to my car, I found someone's car (A8) being parked behind mine by rubbing against my rear bumper.
As a person who babies the car and be extremely careful to avoid getting any scratch or damage on my car, seeing someone's car kissing my rear bumper, was already enough to upset me wheather there is any scratch or not. I decided not to move my car until the owner of the other car shows up.
After waiting for about 20 minutes, he finally showed up and I told him that his car was kissing my bumper that there may be a scratch.
His first reaction was "This is New York. Something like this happens everyday. Why are you trying to make a big deal out of this?"
Instead of apologizing, his reaction was very rude.
That's it. That completely made me upset.
I moved my car and there is a very tiny scratch on my ibis white bumper from the license plate holding screw of his car.
To be honest, it was not big scratch but still clearly visible on my clean white bumper.
I said "look. there is a scratch. That's from your license plate."
He did not even think about apologizing but kept looking at me like a crazy man.
I was about to call the police and have a police report filed and have my insurance company involved but I had my family and didn't want to go through hassle either. Also, I wasn't sure what the policeman's reaction would have been after seeing that tiny scratch as well.
So, I decided to give him some sort of advice (When you damage someone else's property, the first thing you should have done, is to apologize instead of calling it a very natural thing that should be accepted to everyone) and then let him go.
Anyways, my question to you guys who drive in the city or crowded places where there are many cars rubbing against other cars more often is, do you usually not care when someone leaves a tiny scratch from parking? or do you guys actually call the police and have police report filed?
What would you have done if you were in my position?
I'm trying to figure out how I can handle situation better when and if I run into a similar situation in the future. I would like to handle it in a right and normal manner.
Thanks for reading the long story.
