No thread for a brake rotor retaining screw

I changed my pads and rotors today, and I was excited to finally install brake rotor retaining screws and get rid of annoying rotor spin.

    Instead, I found this:

Is this a cheap aftermarket hub? I can't imagine Audi would not have supplied a hole for the retaining screw!

FWIW my rotors don't spin, they've basically "stuck" to the hub after a few thousand miles and heat cycling. My new DBA 4000 rotors don't even have the screw...that's only for the assembly line guys to hold things in place.

I replaced my hub with a Mayle one when I did the wheel bearing and it did not have the hole for the screw either. But the screw is just there to hold the rotor on the hub for the assembly line guys as dparm said

Please explain this comment. . .

Also, as said, the retaining screw isn't really necessary. Probably something there for help with the assembly line. JHM's LW rotors don't have the hole for the retaining screw and I believe several other aftermarket rotors don't have it either.

Actually the front JHM L/W rotors do but not the rear ones iirc. As everyone said, not necessary.

As many have said already the rotor screw is not required. There should be a factory wheel hanger tool in the tool kit or you can buy one from multiple different places to line up the wheel hub, brake rotor, and wheel when putting wheels on. The early parts were plastic so they would break if you let a heavy wheel just hang on there but the later parts are metal. ECS sells metal wheel hangers and they look like this:

just put one stud in each of your hubs from JHM, it'll solve your "rotor spin" problem, and it definitely helps when your putting you're wheels back on when the cars up on a lift.

    The retaining screw is unnecessary.

That does solve the problem, though it complicates the installation a bit. I'll also look into the wheel studs.

By rotor spin, I mean when you're putting your wheel on, turning the wheel against the rotor to line up the bolts and having the rotor turn so that the holes are not aligned. It also made my brake pad/rotor installation more complicated, because there was nothing holding the rotor on except the brake caliper. On my previous cars I have always kept the rotor retaining screw.

Ive dealing with a vibration while braking for some time now... 2 new set of rotors, and still vibrates, you cann see the rotors moving side to side when putting to run in the air. the thing is that ive detected this abormal waving from the rotors in both sides and you can even see the padas traveling in the carrier, again, i saw it in the left side first. so after the rotor i installed a new bearing and hub cause i saw the hub a little "loose" on the bearing. so i thougth i had fix it, but then it started showing the same condition in the rigth side. i took the car apart again and checked for probolems with the bearing etc. i even put the rotor together on the bearing in a table and measured the tolerances, it did not had any "waving" then so i re-intalled everything back and the vibration was gone (on that side)... now i have it back in the left side... i was thinking it has something to do with the rotor position with the hub as it doent have retainers screws, but i saw the coments sayin those are not necesarry for normal opreration, this is driving me nuts!!! any gurus out there???

Drill and tap a hole in the hub for your screw.
