I have a 2000 a4 1.8 that comes with a one piece headlight. I know they are projectors but I wasn't sure if they were HIDs or not so I took out the bulb and found they are halogen H7s. I want to get a black headlight housing and upgrade to HIDs but the one that I am looking at says it's compatible with stock b2s bulbs and stock ballasts...since I obviously don't have those can I still buy the headlights and get a conversion kit for the bulbs? Or should I look for h7 HID headlights?

You will need to buy an aftermarket d2s HID kit. The d2s projectors have little fingers that hold the bulbs in along with the clip. h7's dont have the same projectors.

I use DDM 55 watt d2s setup with 5k in place of my stock d2s ballasts/bulbs that went back on me.

Yeah from everything I've read my understanding is if you have h7 headlights then you need to get an h7 kit...although they do make h7 to d2s adapters that basically act as a spacer (I think) that will allow you to use a d2s set up in a halogen housing so that the bulb doesn't get too close to the projector housing. But why bother when they make h7 hid kits. Now if I do end up getting the headlights that are made for the oem d2s set up then that's another story like you said...

Ok so I found out more answers. I was told by a hid kit manufacturer that inorder to equip aftermarket d2s headlights on a halogen b5 that I will need to get d2s ballast and bulbs but with h7 wiring. So they're custom making it for me :) why isn't a conversion kit like this available? I've read a few posts here at AZ with ppl complaining about retards who put HIDs in halogen projectors because they're not meant for them...so in case you are wondering this is why I am making the effort to get new headlights that are specifically made for d2s....
