How to Clean Inside of Fog Light Lens?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just had the dealer replace fog lights on my 2010 A4 Prem+ with the HOEN "whiter" color-matched bulbs. Asked them to clean the inside of the fog light lenses at the same time as they are all "fogged-up" and filmy. When I picked up the car the dealer said there was no way of cleaning them. Somehow I believe there must be an easy way of getting to the inside of the lens to clean them. The new bulbs look so much better but the cloudy lenses look horrible.

Hope you don't blame me for saying, but i hope you had a good reason to let your dealer do the bulb replacement. Because if you can't do that yourself, i'm affraid cleeaning them won't be a job for yourself :p.
All jokes aside, it is possible.
    Take out the foggrill covers.
Remove the 3 bolts that hold the fogunit.
Unplug the power cable of the fog.
Remove the bulb by turning and pulling it.
Take some paper tissue on a small stick or something simular and clean the inner side of the lense.
Might want to leave the foglight unit open and keep it overnight in a hot place so any wet/water can vaporate.
-> Reverse the above and install them back in.

I never had fogged-up stock fogs, but maybe you want to put some silicone between the lense and housing. I had to do that aswell with my skoda led fogs. After driving throught a few rainy days the foghouse was nearly 1/4 filled with water . After dissembling it and cleaning it all and kit up the lens-housing, they are now dry and still fully working.

    Good luck.

I cleaned it with the method mentioned above.
I am going to try it from the wheel well liner next time.
My fog grills will not be able to take another removal.

I bought led fogs bulbs that are error free and less heat.
Let's see if that helps with frosting.

    Hi CW,

Would you mind posting a link to the LED fogs you purchased?

Is it easy to remove foggrill? If I break it, it maybe a good excuse to get a new foggrill with the fog ring. :D

I got the one from HID Concepts.

I am getting a bulb out on the right fog only when my low beams are on.
So they are not 100% error free.
Waiting to hear back from HID Concepts.

Way too much work mentioned here! I simply dropped the plastic cover underneath the engine - like a skid plate plastic cover thing - 3 bolts on each side and 3 under the splitter. Then you can reach right up into the fog light area, pull the bulb/s out and THEN put some soft cloth material (rip up an old shirt or towel) put that on the end of a small metal stick (so it won't bend) and then push through the bulb opening and clean the lens. It takes some time and effort But I did mine and they look 100% better.

Yeah, you can do the same through the fender liner method also.
Forget messing with the fog grilles.
They are just too easy to break.
