Might look into Cana-saver....USPS is still by far the best shipping service when ordering things from the states.

Some suppliers only use UPS. If this is the case, ask them to upgrade from UPS Standard to Expedited. Depending on the size of the order, it may only cost another $10 and you will avoid the clearance charge, as well as get it much faster. Here is the UPS clearance charge scale. A $100 order will cost $29 and a $200 order $45.

UPS, DHL your paying for the names!

For every one of you, like me that has a border crossing near you bout an hour away or so use a USA Postal office and go and get it!
I use Pint Roberts - The Letter Carrier.
    Or last option
quit your bitching and pay the duties for UPS to deliver it to you.

The reason why is costs so much is your paying for fuel, time, paper work and taxes.
Company's like UPS, DHL always have high rates as you are paying for the name!

now if Jason would do us Canadians a favor and mark "Gift" on the package or lower the value of the item being sent.

This would be nice but if Canada Customs caught them they could be fined a pretty penny and banned from shipping into Canada.

I do a lot of shipping to and from the US for my work and I can tell you that the CanaSaver is a waste of money. ECS doesn't ship until they group a bunch of orders going to Canada. The best option is the UPS Expedited as it includes Brokerage charges and the rates are fair considering you'll get the goods in 2 days.

Just remember when calculating your cost, duties on all car parts are ALWAYS 6%. No getting away from this one.

Another idea might be to get a bunch of people together who need stuff from ECS and place one order together so you pay 1 single clearance fee and 1 freight charge. Then have local pickup.

I think you might mean one of the other options, such as "World Wide Express" or "World Wide Express Plus", since the "World Wide Expedited" option specifically states the duties/taxes are not included, whereas the others do not. Or I could have missed something.

Looking at ECS's shipping options on B5 S4 $1,274 downpipes as an example shipping to Toronto, Ontario, we have:

World Wide Express - Delivery by 10:30 a.m. or 12:00 noon. Next business day delivery to Canada, two business days to Europe and Latin America, two or three business days to Asia. -> $203.76

World Wide Expedited - Delivery in two business days to Canada, two or three business days to Mexico, three or four days to Europe, four or five days to Asia and Latin America. This UPS service does not include duties or taxes. That will be billed to the recipient at time of delivery. -> $156.14

World Wide Express Plus - Delivery by 8:30 a.m. to Canada and 9:00 a.m. to all other destinations. Next business day delivery to Canada, two business days to Europe and Latin America, two or three business days to Asia. -> $263.30

Express Saver - Delivery by end of day, Next business day delivery to Canada, two business days to Europe and Latin America, two or three business days to Asia. This UPS service does not include duties or taxes. That will be billed to the recipient at time of delivery. -> $196.70

Standard - Economical ground delivery for your less-urgent shipments to Canada and Mexico. Rates to Canada do not include charges for customs clearance. Customs brokerage charges, duties, and taxes will be billed to the recipient at time of delivery. -> $100.27

Cana-Ease Saver - Offered exclusively by ECS Tuning providing Canadian customers a single cost for order delivery. No additional import duty fees, taxes or hidden brokerage fees. The displayed price is a "to your door" delivered price that includes ALL import duties, tax and brokerage fees. Your order will ship in 1-5 business days with full detailed tracking information. -> $326.08

If you re-read my post I said brokerage not duties and taxes. Brokerage charges are what UPS charges just to clear the goods through customs. You shouldn't need to pay the taxes and duties in advance because sometimes UPS only charges you GST, or no duties. It depends on the agent clearing the items and how they classify them to Canada customs. I have had occasions where I didn't pay duties. I also had occasions where I only paid GST instead of HST. But either way, if you know what your charge would be in advance why would you pay it in advance?! just my .02 cents.

Don't get fooled by UPS "low prices" when shipping.

It makes up for the Brokerage.

The higher shipping service you pay, the less brokerage you have to pay...

Yeah, I see what I missed there re: brokerage vs. duties/taxes. Point taken.

For me, being rarely available at home when deliveries come, I find i'm usually willing to pay a little extra when ordering to ensure everything possible is paid for up front...basically anything I can do to increase the chances of the package getting left at my door and not a dang slip I have to go chasing down post offices before they close etc!

I got a front and rear stage 2 brake kit shipped from washington state for 153 bucks with no cod. It was like 75 pounds on steel, fedex.

I wanted to ship USPS but I ordered a new intake filter 2 weeks ago from stratmospher and still nothing. Ugh we Canadians can't win can we.

If you are close to the border or happen to plan a trip around it. I would suggest ordering it to a holding warehouse such as The Corp Center.

Google them. Pay your taxes on your way back and life is cheaper. But the time factor may not be reasonable for all.

Just my 2 cents. I have saved hundreds.... but its only a 25 minute drive for me.
