    Convertible Top Light Flashing

I figured this might be useful to someone at some point in the future.

The convertible top light on my dash was flashing 10 times when I started up the car. The dealership diagnosed it as a faulty potentiometer (8H0-959-613-A). They had to remove and reinstall the microswitch to replace the potentiometer.

Mine was under warranty, so I don't really know.

    At my dealer:
    $150 Parts
    $118 Labor

My car was throwing fault 02000 switch position incorrect signal sporadic and 001986 012 Convertible Top frame position sensor. Dealer said the problem was either this sensor that they did replace or the hydraulic pump for the top. The top is all mechanical, not electrical, so they can't run any tests on it and it's very expensive to get to it and replace. At least $1000 for a new hydraulic pump as I recall. Since the top was operating fine when the error was still showing they replaced the sensor and that that fixed the problem *phew*.

Mine has started freezing intermittently in the middle of raising/lowering. I'm hoping it's just a sensor, but I have a feeling it's the pump. The deck top will sometimes not stay open, and when it starts to close it blocks the roof from folding properly.

Anyone know if it's covered under Audi extended warranties?

I think the extended warranty excludes the "top," but I don't know if that's just the fabric, or the frame/hydraulics/electronics also.

    Red face Bargain Cars

Some vehicle makes sell better than others. Popularity is not a given for vehicles any more than it is for people. But that can save you big on a new vehicle if you choose one that is sound, but still is not selling well. Get the bad car credit finance you need for your new car. A lot of people have been disappointed before of cars that are really ugly looking. These kinds of cars have really affected a lot of car makers because their sales have been really affected and since then a lot of these manufacturers have been really careful in designing cars.

This video may or may not prove useful to those who end up with the top stuck partially in one position or the other. The guy in the vid claims it will also reset the system.
