    Squeaky clutch pedal = TSB

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys-

I brought my car in to audi to get my oil topped off before going on a road trip yesterday. (Btw, the oil meter for max to min indicates when you are down one quart of oil. After, a yellow warning light comes on. After, u have a second bar to burn a second quart of oil. If u manage to burn thru this one as well, then the light turns red. That is when you need to get ur oil topped off immediately.)

I complained about my clutch pedal squeaking and being a little rough when it is fully engaged and u start to let it out a little. I asked them to grease the clutch hinge, but they confirmed there is a tsb to replace the throwout bearing (apparently this is a common problem). Im going to lose my car for two days due to labor :(. Just a heads up if anyone else has a squeaky clutch pedal.

Yes, I went into the dealer for the same problem and it seems they are just brushing everything off and say its normal. They have also done it with me having a hard time engaging first and second gear and blamed it on my shifter. Now I am getting all sort's of weird notices coming from the engine and not only its ticking noise (I can hear the engine in the car now).

anyway thanks for the TSB info I guess its time to change dealerships.

My clutch pedal does not squeek but am surprised by the amount of noise the 6MT makes, especially when riding the clutch in the friction zone. I'm not sure if this is normal, but it sounds like the tranny is grinding when the clutch is not fully engaged. It's a brief, course, whining/grinding sound when accelerating from a stop. It also occurs whenever the clutch is in the friction zone in any gear change, although this is very brief compared to the "start from a dead stop". Once the clutch is fully engaged, the sound goes away. I've been properly driving manual transmission cars for over 10 years, so I know it's not technique.

I too find it a bit difficult to engage first gear compared to other cars I've driven. I frequently find that I have to engage first gear before coming to a complete stop.

The car still is new at about 700 miles, but after driving my GTI this past weekend for the first time since I got the A4, I forgot how direct the transmission the 02M transmission felt in the GTI. Everything felt smooth compared to the clunky A4 tranny. I hope this all goes away once the car starts breaking in.

In regards to the squeaking sound, is it associated with the movement of the clutch pedal by itself? Or is the squeaking sound coming from the transmission WHEN you move the clutch pedal? For example, when in neutral and you pump the clutch pedal, will it squeak then? Or does it only squeak when it's in a gear?

    *edit: This is a 2011 A4 6mt

my clutch pedal will squeak while pumping the clutch pedal (regardless if it is in gear or not). the rough feeling is more towards when the clutch is almost completely depressed.

Hey guys my clutch has been squeaking on and off for around 6 months. I told them about it for the 40k service and they said that they couldn't reproduce it, this time for my 55k service I showed them while it was squeaking and they first tried lubricating it but that didn't work. Thanks to you guys for posting the TSB. They have found another TSB number for my vehicle that does deal with the same kind of solution: throwout bearing, so they are doing the service today and should have the car tomorrow. I will post the parts as well as the TSB number when I get the car back.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that to complete the TSB they have to pull apart the clutch. Mine is has about 40% left so I am having them put in a new clutch and pressure plate so that I can save on the labour. They will charge only an hour for the additional work and the rest of the labour will be covered on the TSB under warranty.

I looked for any aftermarket clutches but couldn't find anything that is available for our cars yet.

I got my car back from the dealer today, and once again they said everything is fine and the TSB I gave them does not cover my year? I don't know what else to do about it Ill have to go out of state sometime to have another dealer check it out for me.

Finally got the dealer to fix this problem. They said its some kind of plate that needs to be installed to stop the rubbing. I will try to get the TSB and parts for my fix, it might be based only for my year.

What are you fixing, if the dealer took care of the issue?

The TSB that is posted in this thread does not apply to my year car. I personally am not fixing anything, the dealer is doing the work. I am just going to try and get the TSB that was used on my car to solve the problem.

Told my dealer about this issue and they told me everything was "fine" and "normal" and they could not hear the squeaking sound. There is clearly something wrong with my car, it is very difficult to push the clutch pedal in and it is also very rough when engaging at a stop. I'm taking it to another dealership this weekend, so hopefully they resolve the problem. If not, I don't know what I'm going to do.

It's understandable that they would dodge trying to warranty this tsb. It's labor intensive and will most of two days to complete.

Why don't you guys who have problems with your dealers simply log into the official Audi database www.erwin.com (or alternativly https://erwin.audiusa.com but that one has less information), find the TSB and print it out with your cars VIN number on it? Then the dealer have absolutely no ammunition to refuse the work, as they use the same database. Sure it costs 5 EUR for the ROW database, or appr. 30$ for the US database, but now you have access to an updated list of all TSBs, as well as all workshop and service manuals for your car.

Hey guys just doing some research since I've got a squeaky clutch pedal on my 2011 6MT sline A4 with 70K miles. Is there a way to pull this TSB or get it in PDF so I can check if my year is covered? I am clearly out of the warranty period but I thought TSB's still apply.

Also, how long before I would need to replace my clutch? Really not sure what's a general range or where I would start to notice it slipping? After 100K miles? Thanks for any help!!!

Hey guys, this is the "rod" that is squeaky on my clutch pedal. Not sure if the TSB really applies to this, but I tried white lithium grease and it only made it WORSE!

Would regular WD-40 work? Any other suggestions?? Please HELP!

Would not recommend WD-40 for something like that. What year is your car? You may be covered by the TSB.

Call your local dealer or AoA, they will be able to see if your VIN needs the fix. The latest TSB revision is TSB# 2022990/3.

I am taking my a4 in this week for the same issue. My pedal feels griddy/sandy in the friction zone and is generally not smooth either. I also get some squeaks from time to time. Hopefully they can get this resolved. My CPO warranty ends in November.

I had this done last September. It was covered under my CPO warranty but it still took a month of nagging them. At one point, the service adviser was telling me that his Jetta's clutch was doing exactly the same thing and there was nothing to worry about. Really? You gonna use Jetta as a counter argument for a $40k car?! Really?

And get this. They fixed the clutch. I picked up the car. On my way home, the transmission fell out... Haha, sort of. They forgot to torque the transmission mount, so the the mount came loose after the second pothole and transmission started to bounce around every time I hit a bump on the road. Some Audi dealerships are not all that competent. I learned it the hard way.

It did help though. The creaking and the grainy feel of the clutch pedal is completely gone and hasn't returned.

Got my "squeaky" clutch fixed today for my 2011 B8. It was covered under the TSB. They main problem of it sticking is fixed but there is still a slight sound left (which even the dealer noticed). They made an appointment for me tomorrow........

What was their remedy for the your second visit? I am working on getting mine in for a second time to have them evaluate this. I spoke to the shop and gave them the tsb via email and he says he is going to go over it with the shop foreman for more info. Waiting on a phone call back and go from there.

After a Saturday visit to show the issue to the shop foreman, they confirmed the sound. Car is now at the dealer and has been approved to remove the transmission and fix this. Very happy this is being resolved under my cpo warranty. Will let you all know if its the usual sliding pin or something else.

Got my car back today they replaced the throwout bearing, lever, ball pin and a "piece". When they were road testing it, the alternator died, so I got me a free one of those.

Car shifts and feels much better. Glad thus was covered.
