Often called the "Multi Function Switch", the transmission range switch for the B6 quattro tiptronic is shared with the later B5 models.
Part number is: 01V-919-821-B

The switches are quite expensive. They live quite near the road surface and can become fouled with water and corrosion on the internal contacts. It is sometimes possible to repair these switches by removing it, taking it apart and cleaning the internal contacts. This requires drilling out the rivets and then using small screws or small bolts/nuts to reassemble the 2 case halfs. Could be worth a shot. Changing this part isn't too bad on a lift.
It should probably be noted that trouble with this switch can sometimes cause serious problems. If it faults bad enough, it can cause the transmission to only have Park and 4th gear available to the driver. So it would start off in 4th and refuse to shift to any other gear. Sometimes it will even refuse to shift into reverse until the switch is repaired and the code is cleared. Inability to select reverse can cause some sticky situations pretty quickly.
