    New oxygen sensor...just WOW

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
A little background. I did not like my gas mileage lately, it was about 280 miles for 13.5 gallons. Also performance was not the most exciting. I started to wonder, what can that be? Everything is pretty much in top shape in my car, so I was like, what a hack, lets change O2 since I have never changed it.
Holy crap, but I did not expect that. Car started to have more low end torque, also feel more HP. Boost spikes only to 18 now, when it was doing 20 before, but car accelerates much quicker. Basically it feels kinda like going again from stage 1 to 1+. Yeah, I have 89k miles and have not had any O2 related codes.
Its very surprising that I did not find much info about it here on AZ,feels like many people neglect or forget about it, so just decided to throw it out here, maybe it will help someone.

Good to hear man. I may do this too. Would you say the power was drastic?

How much did the miles per tank change? And did you change front, rear or both? In the same boat...my car has 148k and been getting 280 per tank. I have read in some posts that it should be changed if over 100k IRCC.

I changed mine at 107K. Mileage increased ~2mpg. No need to change the rear sensor. The front wideband is the one that affects the fueling. here is a pretty good price: Clicky click

Its recommend to change both O2 sensors after the first 100K AFAIK, shouldn't really effect performance but it will increase fuel economy..

I never understand why we need to get aftermarket LC1 wideband when we have a wideband ourselves? Or is it not as accurate?

You can't hook it up to a gauge (other than logging with vag-com). So if you want an AFR guage, you need to add a sensor for it.

Personal opinion: If you aren't going with a stand alone system there isn't any advantage. The Motronic ME7 does a pretty good job as is with the OEM sensors.

Edit: Oops! Except for what Walky Talky just pointed out!

I suppose...one would think that after your car is tuned correctly. A/F's would all be in check...but I guess that gives you a good indication that something is wrong with your hardware if the values are off...

Cannot be cleaned. Don't even bother, you can't win against high-temp carbon buildup. If you have never done it, primary O2 and fuel filter will give you a nice rebound in MPG if one is possible.

    Buy my stuff.

Not expecting anything in terms of performance with my paltry Revo Stage 1 on 91oct. But if I can get a few MPG better out of this purchase it'll pay for itself pretty quickly. Hope that's the case, will report back my findings when it's in and installed.

Nobody said you were wrong, mate; we simply said you're paying too much. We'll always try to work with customers (where possible) when they'd like us to meet or beat a competitor's price on the same exact 'in-stock' item, hence our post. That sensor was lowered a few bucks for you on our site. If you guys would like to do a mini "GB" on 'em, I'm sure we could knock off an additional $5 or so; just simply PM us through the forums and we'll get you squared away.

Nice. I am sure others would like to use the price match option since they would rather deal with a easy to work with vendor like MJM versus some no-name company online.

The only code I have is 0456, which is emissions small leak, which stays with me for over a year now.

Ok thanks for that info. I also have no O2 codes but at 130k miles, perhaps it's time to change it. My fuel mileage is pretty dismal.

Installed the new (front) O2 Sensor this weekend and clocked about 130m today. Already noticing an increase in mileage and far smoother acceleration. No overly significant power increase, but she's certainly got some more pep. And we like the pep.

I replaced the O2 sensor (Amazon) and fuel filter (AZ member) last week. I did get a couple of O2 related CELs over the past few months. That was after intercooler, K04, injectors, and Uni 2+ tune. Got a few more MPGs easily, very similar to what I was getting when the car was stock.

Got mine today from MJM, nice fast shipping! Ordered late Thursday and it arrived today. I decided to tackle my test pipe install at the same time as the new 02 sensor and ran into broken bolts from the TP-->DP so I have to go pick some up tomorrow. Seeing as my old 02 sensor looked like this, I'm thinking this will provide some gains in MPGs and hopefully recover some lost HP.
