I pulled my radio out to get the SN to find the code... and the previous owner had written it on top of the radio.

I went to the dealer and they couldn't even get my radio code. So I just bought a refurbished one from ecs tuning. They're having a close-out sale on them for $40!

9 times out of ten, radio code in the spare well means the previous owner stuck the sticker there.

thats a crock of $h!t. They tried to pull that on me as well before saying I needed to buy a whole new radio etc. etc. I posted up a thread similar to this, got my serial number off of the radio. Had my code within days. Strangely enough my code was 1234.

Just go on eBay and buy radio keys or go to a local best buy and ask if you can use theirs for a second.

Anyone getting rid of a broken or missing code Symphony Radio, I will surely take it off your hands. (my #5 button was sucked off by the vacuum and I lost it)

    No its not.

The trunk thing is when the dealer took delivery of the car when it was new. They did it as cheat method for service.

When would an s4 lock you out exactly? I've had my 2000's battery disconnected for a long and short and it's never done that. Is it if the wires are disconnected from the head unit?

I have had my radio disconnected and it powered right back up when I plugged it back in. Apparently some stock radios will lock and others don't, I assume yours wont lock either...

If the radio has ever been changed then a power interruption will prompt you for a code. I think the car 'knows' if the radio has been changed by some eeprom check.

I may have discovered a trick though: make sure the radio is off before turning the car off and disconnecting the battery. it should not ask for a code if these conditions are met.

My local dealership is pretty good about just giving me the code if I call with the VIN and radio serial number.

This makes sense since I usually turn my radio off before I turn my car off... So it was most likely in this state when I removed my radio to clean me climate control buttons...

Pfft! Post their number!! Any dealer here in Colorado wants to charge me 70 bucks for radio "uninstallation"(to find the serial on the radio) then I asked if I uninstalled it myself and brought it in. Said the price was the same because they still needed to look into their "records" lolololol! Are you fucking kidding me?! Lol *click*

okay I can't believe this hasnt been stated yet with all the responses..

Audi of America will look your radio code up.. FOR FREEEEEEEE

All you need is the serial number of the radio which is located on the back.. then call audi of america and they will hook you up.. happened to me last year. If you search around you will find this out. I cant believe you guys bought new radios. Best bet is to call audi when you pull your stereo out and they will tell you the number they need.
