New Q5 has less cargo space than my 2003 Avant

I can vouch for the Q5 not having a great deal of room. A cargo box is a MUST if you plan on going on any sort of trip with kids (or anyone in the back seat). I think we could have done with something a little bigger, but my wife wanted one, and you know what they say about happy wife...

I tried to sell her on the Avant, but she wants to be higher up, so the Q5 is really just a medium sized car on stilts - sure is pretty with those s-line 20's though. we're very happy with it.

Yeah, friend and I looked at a Q5 a few years ago, the space behind the seat to the back is a lot less compared to an A4 avant. Axle to back on the Q5 is 927mm and the avant is 1004mm.





They should start transforming these small suvs to dimensions more and more similar to avants :)

When I was at the autoshow a couple of years ago I noticed that the Q5 was tiny, and the Tiguan even smaller. Shit my wife's Jetta has more room than my B7 sedan. Just because you own an SUV, doesn't mean you have more passenger room.

Q5 is also 6" longer, and 728lbs heavier.

Prefer the drive of an Avant but at least you can get a proper trailer hitch for the Q5. Also, the B6/ B7 avant is noisy compared to the Q.
