ipods are proven. trusted my millions. TONS of stuff out for them. and you can get a great warranty with them. Personally, I think it's silly to get anything but.

don't listen to the guy who just posted above^

i bet he doesn't know anything about the capabilities of iriver and the new h-series. i've done my research, a bunch of my friends have irivers. h10, h320, h340. Buying one of these would be an excellent choice. Believe me.

I'm trying to get my hands on an international version of the h340... unfortunately it costs around 500$$$

That's okay, I'm not ghey or metro enough for an I-Pod, I already know that.

    What's with the international version?

What's the best price you've found on the H320?

WTF does that even mean? You are choosing to not a buy product that is at the top of the line in its class because somehow you believe it's a reflection on homosexuality? I guess you shouldn't buy a porsche, bentley, or merdecdes because, watch out now, tons of gay people rock those as well.

I would do the IRiver too. I have one that is older and it is bullit proof. I wouldn't get an Ipod for a couple reasons. One, EVERY one has them. I don't like going with the flow. Two, I know a ton of people who have tons of problems with the quality. Screw Ipod, get the Iriver.

one of the special things with the international version is that it has a built in usb upload port..

that means if you have a high end camera that takes pictures that are 1 meg each, you can fill up your sd card, then transfer directly from the camera to the mp3 player instead of loading pictures to your computer, and then to the mp3 player.

some things that the hp iriver has that the ipod can't nearly do, are video ability.

you can watch tv shows and movies on the iriver by upgrading firmware to an international edition. imagine having 10 full length movies on your mp3 player so when you're bored, you can listen and watch a movie on a plane.

also, the iriver has the best radio tuner in the business. it is extremely high quality and has great reception.

the iriver has a built in microphone/voice recorder, so you can record jokes, or freestyles, or lectures, or anything the hell u want.

the iriver has WAYYYY more customizable tweaks than the IPOD. one of the things that people complain about the iriver is that its too complicated... if thats so, the ipod is made for stupid people with such elementary options. the HP iriver is for people who are looking for true audio perfection. there is a far more tunable equalizer, settings, speeds, pitches, whatever you want to change to improve sound quality is there.

and OMG, here's something funny.. you can delete files, create playlists and move songs around, and do a helluva lot more options that SHOULD BE standard on mp3 players, but sadly aren't for IPODS.

i don't want to sound like i hate ipod, or have a bias against them. but i have experience with ipods, and people who say ipods are the greatest, "millions of people have them", they're so KEWL, are just misled and enjoy apple's commercials too much.

I have owned a ipod mini, ipod 2g 10g, and a ipod 3g 20g. So i do have experience with apple mp3 players.

I've also owned a nomad zen (first edition with green LCD), nomad zen 2nd edition with silver case, hp iriver flash 512 flash player. i have experience with the h10 and h340, since a bunch of my friends have them and i use them all the time.

I'm in the market for a new mp3 player right now too, and i'm considering a 60 gig apple photo as well. The problem is that its priced over 500 with all the options i want with it. And knowing you kirath/dood monkey, i think the h320 will be perfect for your lifestyle. You're an audio nut/photographer. This is a good choice for a good price.

Btw, you can get a h320 easily for 280. You can get it used for 250.

    ^^^^Man speaks the truth.

I had an mini ipod and it was complete crap. I was taking it in every month for service. Even with the replacement warrenty, who really wants to go to Best Buy every couple of weeks? All my friends have the iRiver, and have had no problems.

I want that upload feature! That's one of the things I was hoping the US realease did!

If I end up going to Europe this summer, it would be awesome to have 40gigs of potential picture storage!

Oh, and I think I'm gonna go the 40gig route. $80 more now I think is worth it for double the space.

Where can I find the international version!!!!

I would have to agree that Ipod's are not all "amazing" that everyone says that they are. For 1, they are WAY overpriced. You can get a 15-20GB MP3 player from a number of different sellers for around $225-$250. I have also heard and witnessed many Ipod Hardrives crashing and their batteries dying fairly soon after a non-extended warranty. This is just my opinion but I say GO WITH THE I-RIVER.

    The hammer has dropped.

I ended up just going with the 40gig version (only 80 bucks more)

iRiver H340 -><- very nice looking unit, packed with features. I'll take some pics and let you know what I think once I get it.
