Difference between GBT and FPT transmission

Are there any? I know older transmissions use different flanges, but are these two interchangeable? How about the electrical hookups?

what are they out of? all 5 speed transmission from 94-03 are interchangable. Only things that have changed are rear diff cases, ratios (only between the B5 1.8, B5 2.8, and B6 1.8), and axle flanges

The GBT is out of my 2003, the FPT is out of a 2002 in a junkyard somewhere and is cheaper than a junkyard GBT. I was mostly wondering about things like speed sensors.
Is is fair to say that any 5 speed from a B6 1.8 quattro will bolt into any other B6 1.8 quattro with no issues? I've done a lot of searching on forums, and this is hinted at, but I've never seen anyone come right out and say it.

sorry for bumping an old thread but I really need some info on this.
I also have transmission troubles and the GBT is quite expensive at the wreckers I know its my best bet but, the dealership told me that it "MIGHT" be interchangeable with GBT FNU FTP AND FPT.

All you need is a 5spd manual quattro transmission. Don't worry about the codes. The codes just reference gear ratios and such. Going rate is anywhere from $100 to $500 USD for a used 5spd quattro trans.


If it is out of a B5 you will have to swap the front driveshaft flanges and the tailshaft housing from your existing B6 transmission to the new B5 transmission.


Search function would have found these answers for both the OP and yourself. Its been covered quite a few times in the B6 section over the past three or four years.

Just find a B6 5 speed tranny so you don't have to have the flanges and tailshaft swapped over. I'm using the B5 2.8 because Doug had already swapped the flanges and tailshaft over for me.

Thanks for the thread. GBT it is. For the record car-part.com lists all of these befittin' the b6 5sp quattro. fnu fpt ftz gbt.
