    ACC Coding

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Folks,

it's been a long time since my last visit here. I am currently retrofitting ACC to my B8 2.0TDI 143hp w/o quattro manual gear. I bought a second hand radar sensor from a B8 allroad (quattro), manual gear and trailer hitch. In order to find out how to code ECU 13 correctly I am asking you if anyone having installed ACC could post his/her coding of ECU13 including some information on engine, gear and special equipment (trailer hitch, etc.).

So far I have this available:

A4 CDNC 2.0l TFSI Coding: 00C7E0 Automatic Gear
Q5 CCWA 3.0l Tdi Coding: 0079C0 Manual Gear
    S5 - Coding: 002BA0 Automatic Gear
S5 - Coding: 002B99 Automatic Gear, trailer hitch
A4 CAHA 2.0TDI Coding: 00EEE9 Manual Gear, trailer hitch, Avant
A4 - 2.0 TDI 143hp Coding 00A0C9 Manual Gear, trailer hitch, Allroad (quattro)

    Tnx a lot!
    Best regards from Germany

Good luck with the retro. I installed mine a while ago but am stuck now because of component protection. Over all install wasn't to bad though.

The retrofit itself is almost done: New switch for ACC installed, radar mounted, wiring done, coding of all other ECU done, but the radar is still my problem.

Component protection - but not for the radar? What coding did you set for the radar?

I didn't set anything for it. I never got a chance. It came up as protected and I was getting a coding error when trying to code the engine module. Not a rejected error, something like improper state. So I figured there was protection and I had to have it cleared by the dealer before I could move forward.

Do you know how to reset the alignment? I get an out of alignment error as well but don't know how to reset the unit to accept it's current positioning.

I don't know if anyone of you have used this guide, for the A8 (should be similar, because it is the same system) - but here it is: http://audiforum.us/threads/a8-adapt...retrofit.7800/

Yeah I seen that one before and it uses the same coding convention as the A6. The coding doesn't seem to match the B8's though. Still no clues there either on resetting the alignment. Sooner or later I will finish this. Only started it a year ago.

Sorry, but I don't think there is any Q5 3.0TDI with manual gearbox.

Hello Horchamol, I'm studing the retrofit me too, but I know that I must change also the gateway (mine is final "M") and you? Did you change it? After the installation, you have to go to audi dealer to erase the component protection that it's present on the used gateway and radar!

Well, I think I almost found out how to code the B8 ACC sensors: You just have to convert the hex coding to decimal numbers. Then you will see that they are very similar to ones used in old A8 and A6. The only remaining problem is, that currently nobody knows how to code the engine. But for trailer hitch and other codings this works!

@David: Did you install a new ACC sensor or a second hand one? Did you ever try to remove component protection? Because since this morning (after the system worked the whole weekend) I have com.prot. as well...

I did not care about the gateway, as mine was ok for the ACC retrofit. You must have one installed which support the "extended CAN" - i.e. lane assist, automatic high beam, etc.
    Mine is:

Regarding the component protection see one post above. I have no clue why this happened after the system was working fine for the whole weekend...

I can't remove the protection yet. I live at least 2 days drive to the nearest dealer. I just ordered a pass thru programmer for VAS so I can try and remove it from here. The interesting thing is, I also didn't get the component protection until at least a few days after the install. I wonder if it comes on while trying to code the engine module. That's when I got error 22 come up on VCDS. I did help someone in Italy get theirs installed and they didn't have any problems. There is a write up someoene on a Q5 that has installed it as well so it's not impossible.

My unit was second hand. If you've figured out any of the coding for the module let me know. I get a trailer hitch error and I think mine is set for Automatic and my car is manual.

As Horchamol wrote, the coding is like it is on the A6/A8 - you just need to convert from hex to decimal - and then back to hex again. The coding of the engine (first digit in the decimal coding) is the one where you need to find the right digit (trial and error).

Well I generally don't take comments "Is Like" to mean "is the same". Which is why I asked again. It looks like they use the same engine code for multiple engines and transmissions in some instances so that part should be fun.

Yeah, I see what you mean

But I think that the engine code for your car is: 5xxxx: 2.0 litre TFSI with multitronic 01J/manual - isn't that your configuration ??

yeah I think I can 51128 or 51168. I'm going with 6 just because I've notice in a lot of programing that Canada is never used as an identifier and ROW seems to be the norm. I'll try the coding later (00C70E) and see if it will take in it current protection state and if it clears the hitch error I'm getting.

Hey dave just a side question of the ACC retrofit topic.
You think with the engine security code changing the engine from north america to ROW would raise the speed limiter from 130 to 155.
I already have a chip tune so i'm good but its something I have thought about before the chip tune.

Its possible but there are so many systems that work together there may be more than one place that controls that. I myself refuse to play around to much in those modules because I'm not sure what type of damage I could do.

2 days? OMG! So you must live close to the North Pole...
Changing the engine ECU and the radar coding itself had no influence to the protection. I think this happened when I changed adaption channel 7 in order to get the default distance selectable via MMI. The ECU is still accessible and changes of adaptions channels and the coding are possible. However, the fault cannot be erased and therefore ACC refuses to work . Let's see what happens, tomorrow around noon I will have an appointment with my dealer (only 20 minutes away...).

I have also heard of a retrofit in Austria where the system is working now for three weeks...

But I am sure you will get rid of the trailer fault when changing the coding as suggested.

I can't do any programming now. I think the component protection has be blocked out of changing the coding. Instead of a range 31 coding rejected error I get a 22 not in suitable state (or something like). I just tried to clear the errors I have and recode this afternoon with no luck.

Here are the errors I've got in that module. My engine module shares the 2nd one. I am assuming it's because ACC is not coded properly and telling the car it has equipment that it doesn't.

How many menu items do you have in the MMI? I used my VAS adapter on the module tonight and it allowed me to add a 3rd menu item that was there. It was default distance.

A4 - 2.0 TDI 143hp Coding 00A0C9 Manual Gear, trailer hitch, Allroad (quattro)

    Tnx a lot!

    Hi guys,
although i have dedicated myself to this particular transformation, it is a fantastic option for own cars.
I have finished all installations and programming of various modules, without encountering any errors with the exception of the engine control unit: Address 01 At the time i am going to set the new bits i always get the same error: 31 ...
I noticed that you also have the same type of engine of my A4: CAGA, 2.0 TDI 143 hp and then I'd be infinitely grateful if you could indicate which codes you have entered on your ECU: which bits have changed?
Below my details, including current programming of my unit: Address 01: Engine (CagA-J623) Labels: 03L-906-022-CAG.clb
    Part No SW: 03L 906 022 C HW: 03L 906 022 B
    Component: R4 2,0 L EDC H01 3216
    Revision: - H01 **-
    Coding: 0104002C02072118
Below you back instead of my programming from a radar module A4 Avant TDI 2008: 0079C0
Thank you so much for everything, I no longer know how to do otherwise...

    Best regards Enrico

Have you had the protection cleared yet? not sure if that would effect it.

    Sorry i don' indicate this...
But first of all i remove CP on new gateway, and radar unit. Now all the system it's ok, no errors, on the different modules, exception to the engine control unit, which can not be programmed.

Could you indicate that you edited on your bytes and bits for this module?

    Thank you so much...

    Hey Enrico,

I am currently not at home, therefore I can't test any codings. But maybe this hint might help you:
In ECU 1 (engine) you have choose EITHER cruise control OR adaptive cruise control - both are rejected by the ECU. In your case choose ACC.
in ECU 16 (steering wheel) you have to choose BOTH cruise control AND adaptive cruise control.

    Maybe this helps.

I horchamol, thank's a lot for you indication, but I've already tried this programming.
As also suggested by his 2005guidorosso fact, i have enabled both the cruise control and ACC on the steering ECU number: 16, without getting any error, unlike the engine control unit 01, first go to disable the cruise, which according to the help of long coding on my VCDS is in the sixth byte: first bit and after i'm activate the second bit for enables the ACC. This is my initial code with cruise control on: 010C002C02072118 and this is after the disabilitation 010C002C02072018, this one is the code i try to set the unit: 010C002C02072218 and generate the error.
I would be so grateful when you can know which is your programming code module's engine, and compare it with mine, so you understand if i am wrong and where. Even better, figure out which bits and bytes have changed.

    Regards
    Enrico

Hi guy, sorry if i ask you too, even though i read that your engine is different from mine. What have changed bytes to set the ACC on your module 01?

My current coding (with ACC) is:

    0104002C18072218

The main difference is cruise control in Byte 6 and Byte 4 which is your automatic gear. I don't know by heart what Byte 1 is for.

When changing from 0x21 to 0x20 and afterwards to 0x22, did you perform an ignition off and on procedure? Maybe this works.

Hi guy, fantastic, the code is same of mine...
When i took the car initially was also my first bytes identical to yours: 04, this was my full code: 0104002C02072118.
I've changed it in person because if i remember correctly about the type of body of the car: Avant (my A4')or limousine. Thus excluding the 6° bytes of the cruise, and the 4° for automatic transmission, the code is the same.

What do you mean turn off and restart the procedure? Could you describe step by step what to do?

    Thank you very much...

    Enrico

It is just a guess: Ignition on, log on with VCDS, remove cruise control, ignition off, log on with VCDS, add adaptive cruise control **> check. Remove also the key when switching ignition off.

I don't know if this helps, but for some codings or changes to adaption channels it is necessary to switch ignition off and on. For example: Changing the dim value of the headlight LEDs works instantly when the value is changed, changing the default value of Audi Drive Select will work only when switching off and on again.

I believe (i.e. don't know) that an ECU like engine ECU always has to "reboot" before changes will have effect. Just try this...

    I horchamol, all clear!
Only one point, you wrote: ...remove cruise control, ignition off, log on with VCDS... but perhaps you mean that I have first to log the second time i need to restore the inignition on before start VCDS? or do not need?

Hi guys bad news, the problem persist:
following your instructions, when i go to enable the bit 2 of byte 6 as indicated by you always get the same error: out of range error 31.

Help me please...i do not know what to do, i tried to enable other bits of the same bytes, and I have no errors, the error only comes out with that bit 2 ...
